An American Classic Diner. Idle Hour is a bit of Americana. A part of our great country that some of us forget about while we are eating upity food or fast food. The owner, Dolly, has faithfully served her clientele for decade after decade. She makes sure that her customers are quickly served fresh and tasty food along with a side family smarts. You can expect to share a sharp barb or two and maybe even a bit of local gossip. I’ve always enjoyed her chicken salad on wheat toast with crisp lettuce & ripe tomato with two (always two) pickle slices. And, her hamburger has always been a classic. Especially with the ironed & toasted buns.Located in Park Circle, Idle Hour (AKA Dolly’s) has lots to offer.
True Southern Diner. Anyone that does not like the food or charm of the Idle Hour is either not a true Southerner or has not bothered to look at the whole weekly menu of weekly specials that include home cooked southern true goodness. There is a reason that this restaurant has a base of repeats customers, and that is because the food and service is constant as well as the home town feeling of warmth. I give 5 stars for this unique, authenic, old style southern diner.
Don’t waste your time. They only have hot dogs and hamburgers and don’t serve breakfast. They don’t even have coffee. Also overpriced for the small amount of food.
Not very good food. The food being bad was not the worst part of the experience. The cranky women working there was the the worst part.
