Wonderful old-world atmosphere, good service, and okay food. I ordered the Madra Rua Breakfast Bowl, which is basically regular breakfast stuff with a dose of their signature sauce, which I could barely taste. And none of it sank to the bottom where lay the fried potatoes, which were consequently dry.THE CURMUDGEONS RATINGS (explained, sort of, on the Curmudgeon-About-Town blog):FOOD: 2 1/2 chili peppers (out of 5)SERVICE: 3 chili peppersAMBIENCE: 4 chili peppersVALUE: 2 1/2 chili peppers

We were hoping for some bangers and mash and Shepards pie but they only serve brunch on Sunday. The atmosphere is divey sports bar with dark wood, bar seating, bench seating and stools. Hubby had the eggs Benedict with corned beef hash. The hash looked like the canned variety. I had a BLT. The bread was greasy and there wasnt a lot of bacon inside. It would of been a two star rating but I took into consideration the service and our disappointment not getting what we came for. charlestonchews.com

I really can’t say enough about Madra Rua. Being of Irish descent, I love everything Irish and have tried Irish restaurants from Florida to Virginia. Mara Rua is THE best. The decor is just what I think of when I think Irish pub, the service is top notch, the prices are very reasonable, great hours, excellent bar selections and the food is second to none. Really. My husband is a fish and chips connoisseur and he rates Madra Rua’s fish and chips as THE best he’s ever had. Ever, anywhere, really. Any time we travel to Charleston, we ALWAYS go to Madra Rua for lunch. It is well worth the extra drive to get such amazing food! Go, you won’t be disappointed, I promise!
