New and improved. It’s been a year since our last visit… Decided to give another try. What we found: new menu, new food, new chef. Excellent experience
We had the pheasant popper appetizer (decent), house salads (also decent…house-made dressings made up for the lackluster croutons), and a ribeye (not especially tender or flavorful for the price) and lamb chops (very good, but the portion was pretty small) for our dinner. Overall, I would not recommend this restaurant. The food wasn’t bad, but it was way overpriced, and the service was terrible. We waited for a table, even though there were several empty ones, and we waited entirely too long for our waitress to come and take our order once we were seated. We asked for water, and the waitress felt that setting other tables (presumably for the next day, as it was close to closing time) took precedence over that.
If you’re expecting Prime beef this is not the place. When the menu says Prime and the steak is $44, I expect Prime beef. The steak was not Prime! It was tough, chewy and tasteless…Other aspects of the meal were just okay. Service, marginal. Wine was great, but we had to ask for it three times, including waving down the bartender when our waitress was no where to be found. Save your money….
Great meal! Steak was cooked perfectly 🙂
Fine dining. This place is beautiful, and so is the food! Yes, it is pricey, but the food is WORTH IT! It’s the perfect place to try some local dishes, as you know it will be cooked & prepared perfectly – buffalo, elk, pheasant, walleye, to name a few. Bf orders steak everywhere we go, and he had the Cowboy bone in ribeye, which came out on a giant rib bone! Raved about it, saying it was the best steak he’s had in long, long, time, and that means something, b/c that’s about all he ever eats! I had buffalo steak – have only had buffalo burgers before, and I like mine medium or above. Even though buffalo is leaner & dryer, my steak wasn’t dry at all, and was soooo delicious! Bf said the chef really knew what he was doing to cook mine to my liking, but also have a tender, juicy piece of meat at the same time, and I really appreciated that. Daughter had elk ravioli which was unique & full of flavor and she loved it! She didn’t want to share, but the half a bite I did get from her was so good, I may order that next time we go! We also had Brandi as our waitress – she was patient (I changed my mind mid-order and I had a rambunctious 2 year old), but Brandi had a genuine smile, was very helpful with questions on the menu, and although she was busy, took good care of us. We were very satisfied with our dinner and our experience here, and highly recommend! We’ll be back next time we are in Rapid City, that’s for sure 🙂
Brandi is AWESOME!. Our server here was BRANDI and she was awesome. Our food and drinks were amazing plus they have a great wine selection. If you go here, request to be served by Brandi. She has a wonderful personality and really took care of me and my family. Thanks Brandi, we will be back but only if you serve us.
Expensive local joint. Local place, really good food, high prices. staff was wonderful, had a very rustic feel. lots of food from the region like bison, walleye, and such, all of which was cooked wonderfully. i have no complaints, and feel like you have to stop by at some point!
