Ok, but not great. I had the catfish dinner, with fried okra, baked sweet potato, and turnip greens. The catfish was ok, but very plain, as was the fried okra. I was surprised that there wasn’t any hot sauce on the table, and none was offered. The baked sweet potato was exceptional–very tasty. The turnip greens were just weird–very dry, almost crispy. I’m used to my greens steeped in pot likker. They were also very plain; no hint of any heat at all. I realize that an older Northern crowd might not like seasoned food, but customers should at least be able to add their own. The cornbread is very Northern–yellow and sweet. But I like it that way. The men’s room was an utter disaster, but we got there just after the noon rush was over, so I’ll give them a break on that one. All in all, a fairly blah meal, and not really much that tempts me to come back.
You have to know how to order. Everything I’ve had there has been consistently good. Mom loves it there so I meet her there from time to time. I tried breakfast once at 11:30 am. The hamsteak was awful. It was like warmed up beef jerky only ham. Everything else was cold. Maybe breakfast is better earlier.
An old time favorite. I think I will always love this restaurant. Like a good homemade meal, you cant hardly get any better than this. And there is no way I can get out of there without shopping in there store. The top of my list for a wonderful place to eat.
Simple and fast when on the go. Clean, family friendly, not too expensive and typically found at easy on/easy off from highways. MIL loves the salad, daughter loves chicken fried chicken, lots of comfort foods.
