I never give 5 point ratings, but today my family and I had a set of meals that were so close to perfect I gladly give Spezia the highest rating possible. Our dining experiece started with humble but incredible fresh crusty bread. Paired with EVOO and parm I could have made a meal of it in itself!Next came out the cheese and salami tray that was loaded with delicious salamis, hams, soft and hard cheeses, pickled asparagus, pitted olives and crackers. Follow that with Tomato Basil soup that was at once creamy, but hiding treasures of beautiful tomato lumps in its depth–and with just the right amount of sweetness as many places go too sweet.Bring on the entrees!!I had the Prime Lamb Sirloin which was an eating experience in tender flavor I’ve not had before. A thick chunk of lamb steak perfectly medium rare, seasoned with rosemary and 4 pepper spice. So tender without a hint of gamey flavor–I would not have guesses it was lamb! With it was a nearly equally delicious mushroom, both drizzled with an incredible balsamic reduction–yum! The mashed potatoes were there helping out but were clearly out shined by the protein. My sons Caesar Pizza was like a top-notch Ceasar salad melted onto a perfectly toothy crust. The pizza was so good, I don’t understand why the regular Caesar side salad was not up to the same standard. The house salad is a much better choice. The Rigatoni Gilda with a perfectly balanced bolonaise was a great pasta option. The Hunter’s duck was not exceptional but very very good with it’s orange sauce. The only item we had that stumbled at all was the Four Season Pizza which suffered due to then verwhelming flavor of Calamatas. Unfortunately the olives were plentiful enough to prevent one from appreciating the beautiful procuitto and other delicate toppings. I am so glad we made the short trip from our hotel there on our last night in town. It is a meal I will remember a LONG time and a place I will highly recommed to all! I wont miss a return visit during next years tournament season that brings us to Sioux Falls!!Iced tea rating 3.5/5
