Please do not go to this place. Food Poisoning!!! First off the waitress immediately came and hovered over our table before my husband and second toddler even got to the table. I asked her to please come back as soon as my family came to the table she was hovering again then my son hurt himself and she just stood there waiting for us to order our drinks she tried to push alcohol and appetizers on us as soon as she brought our drinks she hovered again waiting for our meal decision we asked her to come back. The food came out fairly quickly but it looked absolutely disgusting. My husband gets the same thing at any Mexican restaurant we go to and 99% of the time he eats the whole plate licking basically to the end the steak was horrible we could not finish our food. My sons corndog was soggy we proceed to tell the waitress and she just smiled and nodded her head and took the plates away. The manager came to the table we told him the same we said the food tasted funny it was horrible I did not eat almost all of what was on my plate he did nothing to rectify the problem then when we were leaving I told the hostess the same thing the manager walks from out of the kitchen and proceeds to tell me he tasted our food and it tasted fine. Are you kidding me you tried food from a customers plate that’s A absolutely disgusting and B it doesn’t matter if he did taste it- if the customer tells you it’s nasty and they didn’t eat it you should remove it off their bill. PLEASE read – But the best part of the story is I ended up getting FOOD POISONING last night we couldn’t go to the hospital because I could not leave the bathroom. The gas cramps I had were the worst I’ve ever had. But what’s crazy is I barely ate any of the meat I had, about two pieces. Could you imagine if I would’ve eaten that food. I would’ve been in the ICU.

Unimpressed by the service, length of time to get food and inconsistent quality of the food. Some things are really good, but don’t get the tamales unless you want overheated crunchy-ness that’s not fresh! Parking can be tricky when they’re busy. And it was freezing cold in there. I’m hot-natured so that’s saying a lot.

Beautiful Restaurant, Great Food & Service. My sisters and I tried El Idolo’s for the first time and were not expecting all that much. After all, the owners took what used to be a BBQ joint and then an Italian place that is sort-of out-dated looking on the outside and turned it into a Mexican restaurant. We were blown away when we walked inside!Everything looks hand-painted with beautiful scenes, including the tables, giving a Mexican feel as if you just stepped into another country as opposed to a small retired BBQ shack. The staff are wonderful, very prompt and helpful with the menu. The food offered is a mix of the usual Americanized Tex-Mex so-loved by Memphis residents (tacos, burritos, fajitas, and enchiladas), but there is also a completely separate section of the menu for REAL Meixcan food, as in what you would see in homes in Mexico. They also have a variety of unique desserts that can be hard to find – churros, sopapillas, and fried banana burritos. We ordered food from three different categories and everything was great (fresh and hot, great flavors), but the items that stood out the most were the Burrito Loco (their green chili sauce is out of this world with flavor) and their refried beans, which had to have been home-made (not canned). They are on the moderate side as far as price, but 1 entree is enough for two people to easily share. I would definitely recommend to those who are looking for some authentic Mexican cuisine!
