Greek and A Lot More. This restaurant on 8th Avenue South in Nashville describes itself as Greek. It does have a variety of Greek dishes, but there is also a hearty lunch & breakfast menu from which to choose. Both my spouse and I chose the Gyro Platter, and it is as good a dish as I’ve ever had in a typical Greek restaurant in the U.S. Our only difference was that I chose to have their specialty potatoes, and she had the rice. First, I ordered their soup of the day, a creamy potato style soup with what tasted like rosemary & perhaps some other spices. It was salted & spiced properly, and I would certainly order it again. The lamb / beef slices were, again, properly cooked and spiced. There were 6 – 8 slices of the meat, along with the potatoes and a small portion of Greek salad. The Greek salad was not much more than a typical restaurant side salad, and there was very little feta cheese and no Greek olives. The dressing was similar to if not actually a Ranch dressing. The potatoes reminded me of some cream style potatoes with cheese that my mother used to make, and it was very tasty. We ordered some Baklava & coffee for dessert. Although tasty, the dough was very tough and chewy. Their version is not a dessert I would order again.I would definitely return to this restaurant, and next time will order the lamb that they have. The entire bill including tax & tip was approximately $50.00.
Awesome food. Awesome service. Reasonable prices. This is the most under-appreciated local place in Bellevue!
Great find in Bellevue. Have eaten here twice, both times I was very pleased! Great spanikopita, hummus, and Greek salad. Our kids said it was the best hamburger they’d tasted! Didn’t know they allowed you to bring own wine until we saw other diners do it! Will definitely be back!
Thumbs up!. My date and I went out of our way to visit Athens and we were very satisfied with the experience. Food and service were both very good. I felt a bit overdressed in the modest restaurant, so will dress down a bit in the future.I give it a B.
How does perfection taste?. Their Pastichio for dinner, and Baklava for desert is an experience, not just a meal.
Amazing Dinner. Ever since moving to Nashville, I had heard of Athens Family restaurant and had to try. I don’t know how some reviewers didn’t like this, they must not have any taste buds.As far as authentic Greek faire, this place delivers! Had the Spanakopita and the Avgolemono soup–provided a great start!Ordered the Dinner entree of Pastichio…unexpectedly light and tasty but generous portion. Ended with Baklava. Great experience. I will have to come back for breakfast!
