Vui’s is a hip, modern Vietnamese restaurant located right around the corner from our favorite place in Nashville (Baja Burrito.) In a converted house, the insideisopen, modern, a little industrialwith the kitchen in full view. There aretables on the porch outdoors too. We’ve found the food is light, fresh, very herby and generally very good. (It’s not a huge menu, but they execute what they offer very well.) Of what we’ve had so far, the spring rolls are cool, full of herbs and vegies, a little rice noodle and each 1/2 roll has a shrimp. Served with a flavorful house madepeanut sauce, we find them a great appetizer. The Banh Mi sandwich is served onreal good Frenchstyle bread that has a nice light crust and good bread flavor.Rich tastinglemongrass flavored pork and chicken are the standard meat choices and beef is available for an upcharge. It has a base of pate and lots of herbs and vegies. It’s rich and good. The Phocomes with a light broth and meat or meatlessoption. It’s pre-filled with sprouts, Thai basil, jalapeo, etc. I rather prefer getting extra basil, sprouts, jalapeno and lime on the side so I cantune it to my taste. (That’s been my experience in other places.) They do have Siracha,Hoisin and Sambal Olek on the table to spice it up. They offer some unique beverage options, but lack some of the more traditional ones. (No diet Coke here.) It’s an order at the counter and they bring it to you place, but there seems to be lots of help around and things moved well. Prices are higher than other spots, so you won’t feel you’re getting a real value, but overhead in this location is higher too, so you’re paying for that.I’ll end by restating Vui’s is a hip, modern take on aVietnamese restaurant, when most othersin townare more groundedin working class strip malls. ButVui’s iscertainly worthy Vietnamese fare and worth trying for their fresh vibrant food.
