Best in Class. Although Cookeville is fortunate to have many good local restaurants, Royal House of Thai, abbreviated HOT, is one of three restaurants in Cookeville that stand out as clear winners in their type of cuisine. HOTs food is excellent, service is friendly and prompt, and the new remodeling is attractive and clean. Our favorite dishes are the Pad Thai, Panang Curry, Three Flavored Grouper, House Special Eggplant, and Thai Street Noodle with shrimp, squid, scallops and mussels. They bring a spice tray so you can make the dish as hot as you care too. HOT has outside seating now but the view is just of the parking lot. We have always had prompt, courteous service, thought the wait staff appears be college students rather than professionals. It would probably take doubling the prices to attract career waiters. The other two restaurants that are clear winners in their cuisine are Taiko Sushi Restaurant and World Foods Deli. The best prime rib in Cookeville is at Nicks and the best Italian is at Mauricios. Father Toms is our favorite locals bar.

The quality of food has really gone down in the last year. They are charging more for less and give me the wrong thing half the time. Last time I went, I found a piece of dish sponge in my food. They didn’t do anything about it.

Bland. Everything I ate had been frozen and reheated; bland food. Service was great but the food was well below par. Even the Thai wraps were deepfried in old oil and were not made fresh. just hot bland mush.

Love the green curry with chicken. Great wait staff.

Very impressed. Ordered spring rolls to start. The rolls were cooked perfectly and the sweet spicy dipping sauce was delicious. We ordered Cashew Nut with Chicken and Pad Thai. Both were awesome. We both left full and, unexpectedly, stayed full. Can’t wait to go back.

Great Food, Ordinary Service. Good selection of common Thai dishes, always fresh, not excessively spicy, but if you want more heat just ask them to bring you the spice tray. Service can be a little slow but the taste and quality of the food more than compensates. Looking good after their recent renovation. Lunch specials are great value

Disappointed …. After reading the other reviews, I was excited about trying this Thai restaurant. It has kind of a hippie-chick-retro ambience. Very casual. The menu is quite extensive with some interesting items. The food itself was decent and well presented … both my spouse and I had curries (mango yellow and panang). My spouse enjoyed the yellow curry with mango and scallops. The panang curry was okay although the sauce was much thinner and less pungent than I expected. The main letdown was the service. First we asked what the brand of the house wine. Waitress didn’t know. Then we had a question about a bottle of wine. The waitress had no idea. It’s a short wine list and not inexpensive… there is no reason why the wait staff isn’t acquainted with at least basic information. My spouse wanted to know if the scallops were bay or sea. The waitress didn’t know – they are just small is the answer we received. The last issue was dirty dishes. Not only were the plates left in front of us after we had finished, they were left after the bill was dropped off. And after the bill was picked up (even though I placed the bill with the credit card as close to the dirty dishes as possible). And were still left on the table as we left. I know it sounds like I’m being picky but if I spend $70 for dinner and a bottle of wine I expect at least the most basic of service.
