Long overdue, we visited Spankie’s today for our weekly Friday lunch. It looked nothing like I expected, in a good way though. It was beautifully done with well spaced tables and tastefully done interiors. They have a self service system at noon but do have servers for dinner. Being a vegetarian, there was not a lot for me to choose from, truthfully speaking not even a single item on the menu was all vegetarian. Not a good thing for us vegetarians! We stuck to no alcohol as we had to head back to work thereafter. We were five of us and we ordered:Chicken Stir FryChicken Stir Fry without Chicken (That’s what I ended up having. It was nice, but too heavy on the sauce because of which I was done with it soon and did not finish the entire course. I wish they had had a lower price for what I asked as I chose no Chicken on the dish. Or I wish they had not charged me for the side of fries)Cajun Pasta (Two of my friends ordered this. Both of them loved it and said that the chicken was well seasoned)Chicken Spankies (My friend liked it)They have an outdoor seating option too, were people can smoke. You can also take a slice of their in house bread topped with cheese while you wait on your food. This was tasty. Oh yes, and adds to the very minimal list of vegetarian sides! This is definitely a place I would go back to even if I have no food options, as the fries were exceptional and I would like want to try their drinks.

Always good. I ate here 30 years ago during college and it was good. It has grown better with age. A broad menu and surprisingly good food. We go every time we return to Cookeville.
A College Hangout with Decent Food. I know that Spankie’s is a hallowed establishment for Tech students and I’ve heard all the great reviews so I’m almost afraid to write anything negative about it. But after trying it twice, I cannot give a glowing review–especially about the atmosphere and cleanliness. When you walk in through the outdoor courtyard, you’re hit with the reek of last night’s cigarette smoke. I know, it’s a college hangout (I get it), but that next-day stale Marlboro smell doesn’t make for an appetizing atmosphere in which to enjoy your lunch. The inside of the restaurant is dark and woodsy and seems to be kind of clean although the chairs we sat in were old and sticky (maybe somebody spilled a pitcher of beer the night before?). The saving grace is the food; it is indeed good food. The place was very busy both times we ate there, so that is a testament to the food as well. I will try Spankie’s again but maybe I’ll do take-out and enjoy my meal in a different location.
Road trip from Denver to Charlotte. Easily the best food we have found!
Great spot. Close to TTU campus; good food at a reasonable price; great sandwiches, burgers!
The best around!. Spankies is where anyone with any size wallet can go for GREAT food and GREAT drink and the best live music around. We love it! Don’t just try it once because the place changes from lunch to dinner to late night…..
