Fresh. Really great, fresh sushi. Very unassuming place, but it may be the best sushi in Nashville.

Sushi. Their rice is made with crack….warm, slightly lemony crack. Their barbecued eel is also phenomenal.

Love this local place! Sushi is very good and inexpensive. Don’t expect a fancy establishment, but it is very good food.

Quaint and Convenient. Nashville is known for its great eateries, and this stands true even to sushi / Japanese restaurants. Sonobana is restaurant with a Japanese market next door where you can buy sashimi, ice cream, tea, and all sorts of other Japanese food and snacks. The restaurant is small and there are not many workers. However, if you are a patient person and do not mind waiting for food definitely try this place out. I came on a Sunday with my folks and we waited a couple minutes before being seated, but again the seating area is small so give things time. If it seems like no one is paying attention to you then do not go here. This however is not the case. There is a limited amount of servers and they also have other tables besides yourself. Some are busy cleaning tables while taking food orders and running menu items back and forth from the kitchen. The wait is in my opinion is worth it. For people who enjoy sushi and want something fresh and tasty I highly recommend getting their nigiri rolls. I ordered the sweet shrimp and fatty salmon. Pretty sure my mouth melted when I ate the salmon. The taste was so delicate and the full flavor could be tasted in an instance. Next, I ordered the chirashi. For about 14 dollars you get about 12 pieces of sashimi, an oshinko assortment, and a side of boiled wakame. The fish was fresh and the vegetables were sweet and sour which made this combination amazing. Like I said, the are is small but the decoration is kept to a minimum and makes you feel like you are in an authentic sushi bar. The prices may be a bit much; however, this is expected for a fresh delicious meal. Overall, my experience was amazing and I will be back again.

Home style cooking, very authentic and I think it’s the only restaurant in Nashville run by real a Japanese staff and ownership. Sushi was great but my favorite is the Sake chazuke (Rice soup with salmon) that reminds me of my Oba-chan’s cooking. Like I said, very authentic.

Used to be delicious…. now just mediocre. food was cold/ reheated … maybe the new restaurant in the same parking lot- Sushi Train -,will push them to make more of an effort. Won’t go back, been eating here for 15+ years

Best Sushi in Nashville. Sonobana is my place to go for Sushi and I almost go once a week for two years now. Their food is exceptional, the quality is always amazing and the friendliness is outstanding. Don’t be deceived by the outside and outdated style of the interior! The food speaks for itself and you won’t be disappointed!
