Last night wasn’t the first time we’ve eaten at City House. But it will probably be the last.Starting with the service. A bit slow, but decent attentiveness. Pretty average all in all – we had to wait a bit for, well pretty much everything (ordering, glass refills, the bill, etc.)So lets start with the menu. BIt smaller selection than I recall, fewer plates and most needed some type of definition. We found a few items that looked interesting – my wife ordered what was basically squash salad, and I had the octopus. For dinner, she wanted catfish (a favorite) – but did not want the pickled peppers. Sorry, if you want the catfish you have to have the peppers. Ok, so she went with the trout. Could she have the yellow squash as an a side dish? No, that is only part of another entry. Alright, so she will just have trout. I asked if there were any pizzas available besides those on the menu, at this point I was worried we would be thrown out because we were wanting to deviate from the printer menu. Yes, there was one additional pizza that didn’t sound any better than those listed. So, I went with the baked chicken.Appetizers arrive. At this point I should point out we were seated at the pizza bar, because enjoy watching the cooks. We were also treated to a mild shower, as the HVAC duct work overhead had a slow continuous drip on us – and the food prep area. Hmmmm. Anyway, the squash salad appetizer was very good. The octopus would have also been very good, if it hadn’t been too salty. On to dinner. The chicken was excellent. The trout was raw in the middle, but after being there an hour my wife told the server she would just eat around it.Desert was good. She had the peaches & cream tart, I had the almond pound cake.About an hour after we ate, my wife let me know she was not feeling well. She woke up about 1:30, still not feeling well. I suppose she should have passed on the trout, and we should have passed on City House.

Lots of fun cocktails and a good whiskey selection. Highly recommend the belly ham pizza and mustard green salad with raisin dressing. The pasta we had here (the cavatelli) wasn’t amazing, I’d definitely choose their pizza over it. Add an egg to your pizza! It’s super delicious. It can get a little loud, but still a good atmosphere. hottie-biscotti.com

A solid restaurant with a changing, seasonal menu. If you’re looking for some local ingredients with a Tuscan spin in a comfortable urban space, this is the perfect place. Importantly, it is easy to miss, but just look for the ton of cars parked along the street.

Wow. Sunday night supper was terrific. Crowded but service was very good send the vibe very Nashville. Highly recommend it. I had the Chuck stew. Delicious. Creative cocktails to boot.

Saw a piece on this place on the 36 Hours TV show. It is in a nondescript building, with little signage, so look carefully. It has a vibrant atmosphere with a limited menu, which I suspect changes often. The server was attentive but not what I would call warm. I had the October Bean Soup. October beans, peppers, grits, garlic, chilies and pecorino. Fantastic! My wife had the Olives, Taralli, which she liked and there were enough to share. We also shared a Margherita Pizza which was good. A little noisy when there all lots of diners. There is a large bar area and an outside screened area. We recommend it.

As previous Germantown residents, we have eaten at City House numerous times. It is our go to for when guests are in town or when we simply don’t feel like cooking. It is great for a romantic dinner date, a night out with friends or even a family dinner with our one year old. Try everything on the menu, seriously, it’s all good.

We have tried every new restaurant in Nashville. Nothing beats City House. Great food, vibe and staff. Restaurants will come and go, but City House will still be the best in town.
