If you want a delicious slab of catfish, this is where you want to go in Nashville. Definitely worth the trip. It is a real treat. And I had never tried yellow mustard on fish before having it here. I was suspicious before tasting, but…. Love it!
This Sandwich is ICONIC!. I’ve been meaning to write this review for a while because I love to find foods that are indigenous to the city (as well as other cities). I grew up in St. Louis, where St. Louis Style pizza and frozen custard are our specialties. So what about Nashville? So, besides hot chicken and meat & threes, Nashville offers another often over-looked, home-town specialty. And that would be the fish sandwich. Not your McDonald’s version, but a true sandwich with soul-food roots (and I’d say Ed’s is the main root).Bolton’s Chicken also serves a version, as well as East Side Fish, but Ed’ is may favorite. I’ve been going there for 20 years or and the craving will mysteriously cause me to get in my car in the Belmont area and make the drive towards Fisk University then down DB Todd Road towards Metro Center. You’ll see Ed’s on your left, about half-way down.Let me get right to the sandwich. Though they have a catfish version, get the white-fish. It’s battered and deep fried (two big pieces) and laid between white bread, with dill pickles, white onion, American cheese and hot sauce. It is served PIPING hot. Eat by first picking at the edges. I use a fork to pull off the toasty coating and reveal steamy, flaky white-fish.Nashville’s fish sandwich has been featured on NPR. The waiter at Ed’s has told me how folks passing through from Atlanta often make a special stop here. Any place is worth a visit, but I’ve tried them all and Ed’s is number one.BTW, they quit serving pizza years ago.
