The ugliest phrase: sort of. It is a great concept. Ouch. Concept?….. Yep. Concept. I started thinking what I could do with this… franchise it out. Place them all over. Make tons of money. You can see it. You don’t want to see it… but it is there. Feed off the food truck vibe… but stationary….gives you a warm fuzzy… like somehow things didn’t quite work out but here is a guy just turning out great dogs with an alternative life style devil may care meets Puritan work ethic. I had that feeling. Sort of.It pulls at the strings of our urban hearts. We live in the city… we are a scrappy sort who eschew the burbs to live our lives… this place embodies all of that. The prices include tax… there is a rebelliousness against the plastic limitations of the cold bureaucracy…we can’t have seats because THEY won’t let us… but some picnic tables happened to show up. How can you NOT love this guy.. love this place.Notice I did not lead talking about the food. It was a hot dog. It was ok. Maybe even above average. But wait… now before you pan me (and I know you will)… I want you to REALLY think about the dog. Was the bun toasted or grilled the way it should have been? Was it REALLY flavorful? Was that dog really prepared well? Was that flamin’ frank really flaming? Its a local place to get a dog. It is oozing with personality. It is worth a trip to take a picture or two…. is it a great hot dog? no. Its a place to fall in love with… but is it a place to love? Sort of… but really it is a visceral love.

Quirky. I was looking at Google maps to find the Post Depression Theater and happened to spot I Dream of Weenie. It got added to my list to visit during a recent trip to Nashville. It is very quirky and fits right in the East End neighborhood, near a performing arts co-op (PDT), a greenhouse, a coffee house and several other eclectic establishments. I tried the pimento dog and it was off-the-charts tasty! Handmade cheese and pimento on an all-beef dog and a steamed bun. They have several other choices that all sounded as good so I will be sure to go again to try them out.
