What a fun way to experience southern food and hospitality! It was like having Thanksgiving dinner early. The fried chicken, biscuits and gravy, spinach lasagna and green beans were amazing. Others at the table really enjoyed the broccoli salad and banana pudding, but I could have stopped with the top four. Service was friendly and I loved the family style dining, as I like to meet new people.
Amazing family style restaurant. Real, authentic southern cooking offering plenty of options and very filling. Definitely worth the sometimes long wait and the price. A must visit.
We had such a great experience here on New Years Day! It was our first time in Nashville and we decided to check this place out based on a recommendation. We were NOT disappointed! The food was delicious, the service was excellent, and the atmosphere was comforting! I felt like I was at my Grandmas house!
Worst food I have ever eaten. We had a party of 13 only 3 of those people were satisfied. Most left hungry and ended up having to go elsewhere to eat. For the extreme price the food should have been magical. The only saving grace was the fried chicken, which would have been better if it was hot and crispy. The wait staff were great but the owner’s need to hire better chefs. The food would have been better at Golden Corral and that’s saying something.
Wonderful food experience! Not only do you get to eat tasty home style southern cooking, the communal dining style reflects the southern hospitality of the staff – like you are going to your relative’s house for a meal! A BIG meal! The amount of food we passed around was never-ending…I expected the bill to be quite expensive, but it was such a great value! So much good food for a great price. The standouts were…well, everything! From the fried chicken to the creamy mashed potatoes, meatloaf, biscuits and gravy, corn pudding, mac and cheese, beans, strawberry shortcake, peach preserves…those where only a few of the dishes, because they pack that table as if it were Thanksgiving AND Christmas! The great thing about the communal dining is that you meet new people. You go in hungry, you leave full and satisfied and with new friends!
Simply an amazing community style eating experience. I highly recommend this for anyone looking to get a feel of Nashville, southern charm, and excellent food. Go and try it… Nothing like it! Signed a Foodie from Alabama
This food was amazing! My friends and I finally understand what true soul food is. Chicken, mashed potatoes, green beans, vanilla wafer pudding, it doesn’t get any better than Monell’s. The owner, hostesses, and waiters truly embrace you with southern hospitality. Also the garden and little ponds are gorgeous. If you are in Nashville you have to make Monell’s a stop 🙂
