My boyfriend and I had Royal Thai the other night for dinner and to say we were disappointed would be an understatement. There wasn’t one dish (of the four) that we thought tasted fresh or decent. I would not recommend.
From the outside, it looks a bit plain. When you walk in, the walls are covered with a gorgeous native mural. As for the food, it is definitely native as well. From what I experienced in Thailand, they’re spot on. I had eaten here in the past, and the food was good, but the service was not. I am glad to say my service was wonderful today! I asked my server if management had changed, and she shared that she and her husband (who previously managed and served in another Royal Thai location, and are the son and daughter-in-law of the owners) have been working very hard to improve the table service. Whatever they’re doing, is working! I eat gluten free, and she was quick to tell me they had 25 gluten free items. I had the Khaeng Phed (red curry), and it was great! It was full of fresh vegetables, and so creamy. They definitely use the best coconut milk! It was served with a side of Jasmine rice. I finished my meal with their own coconut milk ice cream. I can’t say enough good things about my visit today! I’m so glad I went back. They have also started opening until 2:00 a.m. on Friday and Saturday nights! We will definitely be scheduling a girls night there soon!
Hidden Gem. Yellow Curry with duck, Fresh rolls, and Fried Rice with Shrimp all triple Thai Hot!!! Great Flavors, nice atmosphere and nice service!!!! Should have written about this place a while ago!!
Don’t be put off by the looks of the place! It has the same menu as the much nicer looking restaurant located in Brentwood! Such a gem downtown amongst all the chains. They are willing to accommodate nearly any dietary restrictions and the food is out super quickly! I ordered the spicy eggplant with shrimp and it was divine. I highly recommend this restaurant.
Express or restaurant?. I tried panaeg curry, if was very filling and spicy, but milder compared to the other restaurants. The spring rolls are yummy. Pricier takeout on the dishes than other thai restaurants, but you get a little more than the other places.Nice convenience of calling-in thai for pick up. Order time usually ranges from 20-35 min. from when I call in.I feel this restaurant needs some sort of feng shui arrangement, to separate the register area and the dining room- it seems so out of place to walk through a dining area to the registers to pick up an order from a big round table, instead of a bar or something. Just a thought.
This restaurant has the besbest thai soup in my opinion. The ingredients are fresh, and the service is great. The only downside is not enough parking, but you’ll get that with downtown Nashville. Be warned if you ask for thai hot, it is definitely hot…. not mediocre like other thai restaurants in have been to in this area.
Great Thai! Definitely one of the better spots in the area.
