Nice Place, Horrible Food. The house is absolutely beautiful, the service is great and the menu looks very impressive. However, my husband and I only ate a few bites of our expensive dinner. The gravy on my chicken tasted like the gravy used in tv dinners. My husband got the pork and described it as overcooked. I have no plans to dine at The Standard again. Unless, of course, something changes in the kitchen. My suggestion is to stay away or only go for drinks if you would like to see the house.
Don’t waste your money. When we called for a reservation, we were told they could ONLY seat us at a particular time because they were so busy (it was earlier than we’d wanted to eat). When we arrived, the restaurant was nearly empty. It was also nearly empty when we left. Can’t figure out why they couldn’t give us the reservation time we wanted.My salmon was extremely undercooked, had to be sent back. I will say that when it came back out, it was delicious…though I don’t think it was worth $28, especially when you don’t get a salad with your entree. The waiter gave me my glass of wine for free due to the salmon getting sent back, which I appreciated.Our waiter was friendly but forgot everything we asked for – wine list, silverware, appetizer plates, side dishes. Just not really on the ball, and not what you’d expect in a ‘fine dining’ establishment.The weirdest part of the whole experience was the atmosphere. It’s a beautiful old house with huge vaulted ceilings, and slow really quiet jazz playing in the background. Maybe it caters to an older crowd, but there’s just no life in the atmosphere (maybe this was due to the fact that it was mostly empty).The food is okay, but with so many great (and reasonably priced) restaurants in Nashville, I can’t imagine I’d ever find a reason to go back to the Standard.
Great experience all around.. The Standard has never disappointed me. Every presentation that comes out of the kitchen is done just right….the crab bisque will make your knees buckle. Not a big menu so they pay special attention to everything. And it’s quiet, peaceful…TRANQUIL.
Perfect filet. I ate there last night. The meal was great…filet mignon was as good as it gets. All four of our party were thoroughly satisfied with the meal and the service. Our waiter was personable and professional.
Good thing I had great company! The service was very slow and waiter was not interested in waiting on us at all. The wines we tried to order were no longer available and the waiter didn’t even know what wines were even available. Once we did get our food it was adequate as one of our table members suggested. The ambience and decor of the dining area was a bit perplexing. Overall the food was decent but not worth the slow service.
Tonight I stopped in to try the beef tips. Chef Scott robert’s hits a triple on this dish made from filet mignon over a bed of rice with carrots and baby zucchini. Nice flavor and serving size. The wine lost is deep and sure to please. Nice having a meal that truly taste like grana cooked it!
