The best ever
Value is not there. Very good food and service, but just not excellent enough to justify the price. I don’t mind paying for food/service if I feel I am getting something in return. This place did that for me a few years ago, but a recent return trip was somewhat of a disappointment.
Haven’t been in a few months. It is such a pleasure to see consistently top notch service, cocktails & food. Just the two of us & the evening was tops. This is the best restaurant on the city & there are many very good ones!!
Whining about the wine. I took my family to the Watermark for celebrating Mother’s Day, beating the Sunday event by going Saturday night. The food was excellent in both taste and presentation. I had the Amish chicken with mashed potatoes, done to perfection. My son got the lamb dish and enjoyed it as well. Mom got the filet, ordered well done. Cooked to her liking and well prepared. The only down side is the price of wines. They do have quite an extensive list and top notch wines, but missed putting on some $30 bottles. They start at $50 bottles and go up in price. I enjoy wine with dinner but not at 2x the meal dish prices. Food and service was great but I am whining about the price of the vino.
Frankly, we found the food to be awful. My wife had the flounder, which was decidedly not fresh and smothered in salt. I had the lamb loin, which was smothered in pepper and an awful sauce that left a terrible taste in my mouth. We returned both. The salmon was better and the duck so-so. An unquenchable thirst later that night demonstrated the presence of MSG. The grit souffle appetizer is not a souffle, it’s just grits in a flan-like mixture. Wife had hoped for a real souffle.Service was unprofessional, the waiter didn’t ask for a drink order, I had to call him over. Wait times were a bit long. The gelato dessert was half-melted by the time it was brought to us. Dining room is very loud, we had to shout to be heard. Our waiter turned out to be partially deaf too – probably from the work environment. We had a gift card, which seemed to confuse the waiter. He actually asked me how much tip I would add to the bill, as there was apparently no receipt to write it on – awkward. He then told us what the balance of the card was, again, without providing a receipt. No matter, we won’t be using the balance. We’ve, frankly, had better meals at places like Red Lobster and O’Charlies, and more appropriately priced. This place is only a pretense of upscale dining. If Chef Waggoner is supposed to be as good as he boasts on their website, then this is an embarrassment to his resume.
Fabulous food. The night started off rather poorly. They were filming a commercial. We were seated, but ignored. We were not beautiful enough. The wait staff ignored us for about 45 minutes. We ware served a drink but then ignored. So, by the time a waiter came by and apologized, I was ready to walk. However, I am so glad that I did not. The food was exquisite and the setting fabulous. Great patio and great interior. Very urban. This restaurant could easily be in Prague. The wait staff were very apologetic and part of the bill was written off. So, this restaurant scored high points in both cuisine and service.
Just not that good. I am from out of town. I did my research on Nashville restaurants and picked Watermark. For my job I eat out a lot. I eat from coast to coast and the food at Watermark is just very average. It was not worth the $200 I spent on a meal for two. Nice atmosphere, but bland or over salted menu items. The $4 tacos from the food truck outside of the Yazoo brewery put Watermark to shame.
