We have been eating the Sunday night burger special for years. ALWAYS the best and the fries are ALWAYS perfect. We love consistency! The meat is high quality. For us that means we don’t have to have it OVER cooked. If I had to guess, and I don’t know this to be true, but I’d say they probably grind the beef themselves and probably throw in the steak trimmings. It’s that good. They do cook it as ordered so, Yea! Medium please! Juicy! This restaurant is on the strip in the heart of the UT campus so expect this type of atmosphere as far as noise level.
Great drinks and appetizers, suboptimal service. We have hit up this place numerous times over the years. Few drinks hit the spot better on a warm summer evening than the microbrew beers from Marty Vellas. If you haven’t tried a Vellas Hellas or a Mountain Lite, give them a shot. The appetizers are solid (I recommend fried cauliflower or soft pretzels), and the dinners are good, nothing special. The main disappointment continues to be the service. The servers typically ooze apathy like a cat in heat oozes pheromones. On several occasions there has been confusion between the hostess and server – as in, ‘you can sit in the bar if you’d like.’ We go to a high top in the bar, and then a server comes up to us and says, ‘you can’t sit here.’ It’s annoying. We have been going less frequently due to the continued poor service and discombobulation.
The food is good, though the burgers are overrated. The hostess and waitresses are rude though. Shouldn’t be that way.
Hard to beat their hamburgers!. The Cumberland Grill offers much reduced prices on their outstanding hamburgers on Wednesdays and Saturdays if it’s not a home game day, and believe me, you won’t find a better burger or bargain in Knoxville! Everything else we have ordered has been outstanding as well. Couple that with the warm and inviting ambiance and the excellent service and you have a great destination for casual dining.
