This place is amazing. Never fails to be phenomenal. I have eaten multiple differ t items including breakfast and dinner. Eat the sweet bread and cornbread. But most importantly just eat here.
Germantown needs better dining. Period. Residents too old or too afraid to venture beyond its borders satisfy themselves with eateries equal to grade school cafeterias. West St.’s patrons arrive at the same time every day and always sit at the same tables. They order the same food. Waitresses know regulars by name and even order on patrons’ behalves. This familiarity perpetuates the cycle of mediocrity and griminess. Why clean up? The regulars like being treated special, even if that entails holding sticky menus and consuming waxy green beans. The menu is typical fare. Chicken tenders, omelets, veggie plates, and corn bread all happen here. But none of the food is good. The quality isn’t consistent either. I will givethe diner some props: It serves the flattest omelets I’ve ever seen. Bland food I could tolerate if the place were clean. West St. is one of the dingiest, stickiest, and smelliest restaurants I’ve sat in. The owner needs to deep clean the place and throw a fresh coat of paint on the walls. But he doesn’t care, so why should the staff? I saw a chef grab handfuls of fries and throw them on a plate that was promptly brought out to a table. I guess I shouldn’t be surprised to findhair in my food. The waitresses are the only bright spot. They’re friendly and hardworking. It’s not enough to keep my coming back.Ican travel a few miles in the opposite direction and make a right turn onto Brookhaven Circle. Plenty ofinventivefood joints have sprung up, and it’s not too far from Germantown.
