Good sushi, So-so Service. Sushi here is good; however, it is not as great as everyone makes it out to be. Try Kanpai in South Jackson. We were told by waitress there both restaurants have same owner. The sushi chef at Sakura was trained in New Orleans and the sushi chef at Kanpai was trained in New York. I must like New York sushi better, as the sushi rolls at Kanpai have better flavor combinations. Also, service at Sakura is hit or miss. Upon our last visit, we waited at least 5 minutes just to have someone greet us to be seated. We went early for dinner and the place wasn’t even packed. I say, be different and drive a little farther to South Jackson and try Kanpai!! My husband and I haven’t been back to Sakura after trying Kanpai.
I can’t help but think about this place all the time now and I’ve known about it for maybe 3 weeks. I’ve been a sushi guy for about 3 or 4 years and I must say this is some of the best sushi I have ever eaten, most certainly at the best prices. I just moved to Jackson two weeks ago and I’ve gone here three times already and gotten something different each time and loved it! Go here! I can guarantee you won’t be dissatisfied. The ingredients in the rolls are rich and very fresh, each roll is made to order of course, and the ingredients are worth much more than the price on the menu. Not many places you can go and eat a sushi roll with snow crab, avocado, tilapia, tempura shrimp, and other things all in one roll and find it around $10. Well worth your dime, dine and time. For WHEN you go, I’ve tried the Mexico roll, Picwick roll, or Phelps. All Great! Picwick #1 so far.
