I had high hopes for this place, because I’ve heard good things. I went in tonight with a group of friends, but after 15 minutes of not being served we decided to leave. I will not be back since apparently patrons have to beg for service.
Good food for the price. Was introduced to Yamato by a friend, and it really isn’t bad. Last time I got the yaki, and really enjoyed it. It certainly doesn’t meet the standards of some of the other places around here (such as Miso’s, my personal favorite) but it’s still good and is very reasonably priced. And for me, I can usually get about 3 meals out of one entree.
Good if you know what to avoid. Basically if you like sesame chicken you probably won’t like the dish here. I had it once but never would again – it’s not like most Japanese/Chinese places. That being said it is one of my preferred restaurants in JC because of the portion size compared to the cost and the Chef’s special is the only thing I’ll get. The Chef’s special is either Spicy chicken or beef and is delicious. Even for those who are hesitant about spicy food’s (like my grand mother and wife) love it. Have also ordered the scalops and steak which also was very good. Over all very positive experience, especially if you know what to avoid. 🙂
Ok I have lived in Johnson city basically my whole life and I used to eat a yamatos all the time when I was younger. I haven’t had yamatos in probably 3 years but I decided I wanted to try it again tonight. I ordered the sesame chicken and a side of broccoli. I was superrrr disappointed I used to love this place all their food tastes the same and is loaded with their nasty teriyaki sauce and I mean loaded… You couldn’t even taste the broccoli because of the all the sauce it was soaked in. This place is not even as good as the Hibachi Express down the road that you can get fast food through the drive thru. I’m being serious. This place used to be the place to go but it does not even come close to Misos, Miyabi, and motos . I give it maybe a 3/10 after the meal I had only because they gave me atleast 3-4 pounds of food for one person haha. I will not be eating there again for another 3 years and ill give another update.
Love this place. I love this place. Maybe it doesn’t represent real Japanese food but we’re not in Japan. I always get the Steak and Chicken with lots of shrimp sauce and it’s awesome. Even the carrots are great!!!
Horrible attempt at japanese. The rice was gross, sauce was not good, even the broth was bad. It was cheap for the moutain of food u get tho. But if u cant eat it it doesnt matter how cheap it is.
Great food! Great prices! Who cares if it doesn’t resemble Japanese. Those idiots that want authentic Japanese move to Japan. Your kind is not wanted around here.
