8/18/17 – This was a difficult rating because I have mixed feelings on Chez. The food is not Mexican, but rather inspired Tex-Mex with some interesting interpretative twists. The food is good. It was slow coming out and we filled up on chips and salsa, so eating the entree was difficult.The decor is way out, tables are tight, area is dimly lit, and it’s loud (from people, not the music) making it very difficult to have a private conversation. Chez is built on yuppie and millennial clients – the cool place to hang out, I guess.My preference is great food with flavor, a better lit place where a person can have some room and actually see the menu. There are, in my opinion, much better Mexican restaurants in the area.
I absolutely love this place! Between the artsy, eclectic Elvis driven atmosphere, the great Mexican food and their amazing spinach queso and chips, I easily overdo it every time and never regret a moment!
For our tastes, we believe this to be the best Mexican place in the area. If there is better Mexican food in Knoxville we haven’t found it. We think the spot itself is cool and has a lot of character. The food has always been good with generous portions. This place gets pretty busy and it can get frustrating waiting here for some reason. The service can be hit or miss but we find the misses to be the exception and not the rule. I think in Knoxville this is as good as it’s gonna get for Mexican food.
If you’re into rude snarky hostesses, poor health ratings & overpriced drinks…this is your place! Staff would not seat our party of 6 when 4 of us were already there and waiting on the other 2 to get there from work. Been there several other times & never impressed with the food and especially the service or lack there of. If you want better food, better prices, way better service and a cleaner place to hang out and eat save yourself some time and go to Soccer Taco or El Charro.

Best Mole Sauce around. I’m generally a fan of more traditional Mexican over Tex Mex but their quirky Tex Mex dishes are a bit more of a twist on the norm. I absolutely love their mole sauce and would hesitate to order anything that comes with it. Only downfall is it’s usually very crowded and will wait if u didn’t plan ahead.
Best restaurant in knoxville. The food was so delicious. It is litterly my favorite resturant ever. Love the salsa. Good service. Awesome flavor. Funky little restaurant.
