First time to a Gavino’s – visited Parkside location. Manicotti had so much mozzarella cheese it was like chewing rubber. I’ve never not finished a meal at any Italian restaurant, but I left hungry. The accompanying bread was pretty flavorless – I’ve had better frozen garlic bread. They should also warn that their house salads have hot peppers throughout. Nice atmosphere, but I would not return.
7/30/16 – My wife and I were craving pizza and decided to try Gavino’s. It was busy and we figured that would be a good sign. It wasn’t.Here are the problems – (1) WAIT TIME, (2) size selection, (3) low quality ingredients, and (4) price. The wait time was literally unbearable – I almost lost my cool because because how the wait staff are managed. They box up leftovers and it takes too long. Give customers a box – they don’t mind boxing up their food. I’d say we waited about 20 minutes to get our waiter over to the table, box four slices of pizza, and get our check. There are no size selections on the pizza – one size fits all? Two people cannot down a large pie. Low quality ingredients – the pepperoni was extremely oily and mozzarella had a lot of moisture in it. This combination made the toppings slide off the crust. And, $22.95 for a pizza in this area? I’ve eaten much better at a 1/3 of the price – Domino’s $7.99 carry out special kept running through my mind.Hey owner, reorganize your front-end staff a bit – you need someone to ring tabs, let the customers box their own leftovers (don’t confuse your joint with a 5-star restaurant), and hire 1-2 more people on peak evenings. I’ve been to NY and eaten the pizza – I assure you this place is nothing like NY pizza. I just don’t get all of the positive comments on Gavino’s…and my view will not change until they fix what’s broken.
I grew up 2 neighborhoods away from the owners family. Never have met them but good lord this is the real deal. Nothing even comes close. Authentic Italian Food and pizza. No other place even comes close.
Poor service and bland food. Waiter, Fred was also the bartender, so once the bar area picked up, he was never to be seen again. Food was bland and extra side of dressing for antipasto salad came with a $1.00 charge. No refills, since we lost the waiter to the bar patrons. Won’t go back. ever.
The best meatball parm.and pizza….yea baby!. Best pizza South of NY!
Meh. Best pizza in Knoxville? It’s not any better than any chain I’ve been to. Papa Johns is better.
Excellent Food. My husband and I had the ravioli and fluke specials on Monday, Oct. 20,2014 and they were terrific. Seasonings are perfect. Service was very good and on Mondays wine bottles are half price! Chef was very pleasant – stopping to talk, etc. we have been advised that Fri/Sat evenings are extremely bust times. Have previously had pizza – best in East TN! Freshest ingredients.
