I GO OUT OF MY WAY FOR THIS PLACE!. I used to live in Knoxville back in 1984 and any time I get the chance to drive anywhere near Knoxville, I make it a point to go and eat their spaghetti. The sauce is fantastic! People might compare it to the old Chef Boy Ardee spaghetti box kit sauce, but I thought that was pretty darn good as well. I don’t know why they quit making the kits. As far as the criticisms of others, everybody has an opinion and you should try it for yourself. I love it, it really is my favorite in the country!!!
Louis is good for what it is, but overpriced.. The spaghetti is distinctive and if you like it, you do. I’ve been there several times in recent years, and the place always seems like mass production food. You will definitely get filled up on the serving sizes, though, so it’s a comfort food paradise. If you like really well made food, you may come away disappointed. But if you aren’t picky and you love to eat, and can handle a bit overpriced, then Louis could be good occasionally. It’s hard to say if it’s better than Pizza Palace, which is still just a drive-in/carryout place and in some respects is better than Louis, despite the common family heritage.
Gone downhill…. I remember going to Louis with my family when I was just a kid. We would go every other Friday, and my mother and I always ordered the spaghetti and black-bottom pie. As the kids grew up and the family drifted apart, our dinners at Louis became less and less frequent. Feeling sentimental, I took my mother to Louis for the first time in over 10 years for her birthday, but we were both quite disillusioned. Although we both still like the spaghetti, the portions were half the size they used to be and the price was much higher. The staff was still warm and friendly, just like it was when our family would eat there years ago, but the whole restaurant was freezing cold and very dim. All in all, our two spaghetti dinners and the single slice of pie we shared was over $40. I still hold the memories my family and I made at Louis close to my heart, but I don’t think we will be patronizing Louis in the future.
Horrible place to eat. I have lived here for 14 years and have tried this place three times. Each time it was about four years apart and every single time it was just as disgusting thing as the first time. The spaghetti sauce is some of the nastiest stuff I’ve ever tasted. It has always amazed me that the local culinary taste holds Louise up as a great standard. If Chef Boyardee spaghetti sauce is your sauce then this restaurant is for you. I have Never been able to even finish what I’ve ordered because of how gross that the food tastes. The restaurant is always cold and the food is always nasty. I gave it three chances and they struck out every time.
Obviously enough people like this place – they’ve been in business a long time. I’m obligated to eat here when visiting relatives but wouldn’t have it on my regular stop list if I lived nearby. The food is okay. Not great, not terrible. But the service is lacking and the restaurant was way too cold to even enjoy our family’s time together.
The food is o.k. I don’t see the hype, especially at the prices. I expected more.
