Great food and great service. Interesting range of Italian and southern comfort food. Atmosphere is very nice with private, comfortable booths. I started with the chopped chicken salad, and we shared a very tasty chocolate lasagna for desert. Can’t wait to come back and try more entrees.
Second most favorite Puelo’s location food-wise, probably favorite service-wise. I think Puelo’s is underrated in the consistency category; they just don’t drop the ball much here at all. The creative touches on familiar fare is what is most endearing about Puelo’s. They don’t have bland food…like ever. Outside of Sullivan’s and Lakeside Tavern, some of the best bread you will get with your meal in this area. Service is consistently considerate, and when I go here I get the impression that I am appreciated; you know, like they may actually be thankful that I chose to give them my business: imagine that!
The food was not very fresh. We each ordered fish entrees….they simply were not fresh, nor the sides. Will not return.
Sunday brunch buffet. There are traditional breakfast items you’d expect to see on a buffet, and southern foods such as fried okra, mashed sweet and white potatoes, shrimp and grits, a fine basic salad grouping, smoked salmon, roast beef, roast pork, and a very nice dessert bar including cannoli, cheesecakes, cookies, and cobblers. We tried nearly everything on the buffet, within reason. Both of us had two platefuls. Both got shrimp and grits twice – it was that good! We also shared a cordon bleu omelette with hollandaise sauce.I am not exaggerating when I say that we were impressed with everything we got. It was beyond being just good. It was outstanding. Even the simplest items, such as the scrambled eggs and the mashed sweet potatoes, tasted very good. It’s apparent that the cooks at Puleo’s taste the food as it’s prepared, as everything was seasoned to perfection. It is a reasonably pricy buffet, at $16.99. With a bloody mary and a mimosa, the tab came to $48. It’s very well worth the price. The quality of the food is outstanding.
If you haven’t been lately, you haven’t been. Puleo’s has had it’s ups and downs over the past several years, but there’s new management, (mostly) new staff, a new menu, new bar drinks and beer on tap, and a great Sunday buffet. The manager (Bill Kennedy) has done a great deal to support the staff and improve the dining experience for customers. The food is consistently good and service is excellent. Their steaks are great and the ribs are better than most BBQ places. The seafood varies with availability, but it’s better than any of the local seafood restaurants.
Awesome. My husband and I went twice to the restaurant in West Knoxville. The first time I was impressed with the service and the courtesy of the wait staff. I ordered the filet mignon and was pleased overall, but as someone stated in an earlier review, the steak was underdone. I ordered medium, and it came medium-rare, and could have used some more seasoning. It wasn’t the worse steak I ever had, so when the waitress asked if I wanted to send it back, I said no. The second time we went, same experience with the wait staff but this time I ordered the Chicken Cordon Bleu. Oh my! That was the tastiest thing I have ever put in my mouth! The chicken was moist and tender, and the sauce was incredible. The mashed potatoes were soft and flavourful, and the veggies were tender-crisp. I would have this twice a week for sure!
Overkill. I liked Puleo’s at first, but eventually everything began to taste the same. Too much seasoning, especially overused are salt and sauces. In an attempt to seem unique, the chef has presented his take on great Italian and southern dishes, but there’s really no need to tamper with classics. I don’t want a pasty pile of tepid grits and salty tasso gravy (or any other gravy, for that matter) served with fried green tomatoes! I don’t want a half cup of capers in ANYTHING, much less in an otherwise fine Picatta sauce. I would not recommend any of their so-called Italian dishes…or the overdone desserts. Also, no one likes to be strongarmed by a restaurant manager. If I have a complaint, please LISTEN to it before you start getting defensive…and this has happened in different locations with different managers…very poor!!
