First Timers. Wife and I have been in Knoxville for a year now and we have passed this place many times. Hours are peculiar at present open only M-F from 11 am till 2 pm and Thursday evenings. Food was good. Wife was not impressed but I was pleasantly surprised. It did taste like I was eating at my grandmothers 40 years ago. The Chocolate pie was firm not mushy and quite good. That MIGHT have been store bought from a local supplier but their meatloaf, mashed potatoes, country style steak, pinto beans were really good and obviously home made. Tasted fresh. total for two without drink was $19. Menu seems to change some from day to day per website. We are in our early 60’s and we looked like some of the youngest of their clientele. Pleasant but it is what it is a Cafeteria. If I go again I think I would get two meets and one veg and water.
Old School Eatin’. I really like this place’s lunch with the cafeteria line; load up your tray along the line and pay at the end. These types of restaurants used to be a staple of Knoxville food but now they’re slowly fading away. This place is packed and the reason is good, multiple entre selections including fried catfish, meatloaf, stuffed bell peppers and rolls as soft as pillows. Great sides with a few different items each time I go. Simple, cheap, quality, country food in a clean atmosphere with Vol pics all over. I’d be a happy eater if there were a lot less O’Charley’s and Applebees and a lot more places like Wright’s.
Don’t Believe Everything you read…. Wished the website information about this cafeteria was correct! We waited almost 30 minutes in line to find out that this restaurant ONLY accepts CASH and CHECKS! No Visa or MC please! 🙁 So, needless to say, we left…No review, but disappointment that ALL information about this restaurant gave us all the indication that any form of payment was acceptable, it wasn’t…
Expensive….. Cafeteria food. I didn’t see any value in quality compared to the prices. Fried everything….vegetables swimming in grease. Unbelieveable in this day and age, they don’t accept debit or credit. whstonemandining.blogspot.com
