First of all, they serve some of the best fried rice in the Knoxville area. Rice is always fluffy, never greasy, and has the perfect amount of soy; it provides a great compliment to the understated, fresh tasting style in which they prepare the entrees. Service is always very warm and friendly. I love the subtly of the execution here; sauces are not overly sweet, meats are not overly cooked, and vegetables are not cooked to death(they REALLY cook vegetables very well at this place). On the Knoxville area’s list of sure bets for a solid Japanese meal.
Like eating a pile of salt. On top of a pile of onions.
Horrible Service!. We have visited this restaurant on 3 occasions. The first time was on a weekend, at lunch time, and the food was good and the service was fast. The next time was on a weekday evening, and it was horrible. The food was burned and made incorrectly. We waited almost an hour for the bad food, and when we complained to the waiter, he simply said they were busy. We asked for the manager, and were told by him that we took a long time to order and they were busy. No apology. No attempt to fix the problem. So I asked for the owner. She too was rude and not helpful, did not apologize, and made excuses. I thought that maybe they had a bad night, so we went back on one more occasion, hoping for the service and quality that we got on our first visit. Again, we waited 20 minutes to be seated, and over 45 minutes for our food. The restaurant is not that big, and they were not very busy. My 2 small children were with me and were complaining that they were hungry. When I told the manager that we had been waiting 45 minutes for our food, his response was that it had only been 30 minutes and our food would be ready soon. The people here are rude and they obviously do not care about your business. I will take my hard earned money somewhere where they appreciate me.
Beverly. I ordered a scallop teriyaki stir-fry dish. The first scallop I tasted was mushy and fishy-tasting, stringy and inedible (think incompletely-cooked, marinade-soaked, mollusk that has been lying with the fishes for a while). Yuck!!! Explaining this to the owner/manager brought swift, curt denial of any possible problem. She did not take the plate away or offer another choice from the menu. She looked at the plate, stated that this is the way they are always served, and walked away. Not one to make a scene, I paid for this food, and left the Osaka Japanese restaurant in Maryville. Shameful treatment of valuable customers. Thankfully, we as consumers have so many great restaurant options in our area, with operators who recognize and know how to make loyal customers of the folks who choose to walk through their doors. We don’t need to accept less.
100 health score for 6 months straight!!!. I love the small menu and low prices, yet very generous portions. I cannot stand walking into Asians restaurants with menus that have 100 things that are all the same foods described in a different ways. I don’t have to deal with that at Osaka!Their salad, and spring rolls are also very very good. It is a very clean and friendly restaurant. And if you continue to come back they get to know you and your family.I also paid attention to their health score ratings when I first started going there.(I always look at the health scores of any restaurant when I go in.) They had a 100 health score for about 6 months straight. GOsaka!!!
Local Favorite. I enjoy this restaurant very much. Good food and large servings. Always a safe choice and a family favorite.
Declining. Really good food..unless you order a steak bowl. Meat is much different than the entre and is chewy and tough. Surprising this place would cut corners when they have a gold mine. However, that may be why.
