8/15/18 – A group of work mates visited TWK to entertain an employee from Belgium. I’d heard good things about TWK and was excited to try it.Seating – we were in an oval private room – we had eight folks and the room was so tight that we had scoot our chairs up when the wait staff came in. Too small and would think about cutting the number of people back to 4-6 or change the seating.Appetizers – tried the okra and butcher block. I love okra but it was flavorless. The butcher block was good – the smoked summer and andouille sausages were excellent. I could have eaten those and some cheese.Main Course – filet, med well, twice-baked potato. I think the grill was a bit hot because the surface of the meat was charred and was more medium (another person had the pork chop which exhibited the same char – some of the pork still looked pink to me). The twice-baked potato was mashed potatoes in a tater skin with bread crumbs on it – again, not much flavor. The meal came with a small dipping cup of gravy – I don’t get it. I’d tweak the offering a bit – filet, baked potato (no baked potato on the menu), house salad, and get rid of the gravy (we’re not eating beef tips). TWK can still maintain a price=quality menu – Tony’s (Lexington, KY) menu is a-la-carte and the diner can add whatever they want to the plate.Overall, I would have been upset if I’d paid for that meal with my personal funds.
Fabulous decor and ambiance, major service fail. The acoustics at the entrance are awful but in the rear dining area all was great. My girlfriend and I split a wedge salad and a burger, had two glasses of wine and two beers….food was fabulous. Food and ambience will mean going back soon; now to the service fail. Server was simply rude…pushy and sullen. We ordered the wedge salad, and asked for time to eat it before the burger entree. We also asked and were assured that the kitchen would divide the burger. Salad and whole burger arrived at the same time…we sent the burger back. Ten minutes later the same whole (now lukewarm) burger came back. We asked for a fresh burger and fries….properly divided…and were accommodated but not without some eye brow raising and eye rolling…server was rude and abrupt all night. Will go back, but wouldnt sit for that server again.
