Great Mexican Food. El Rey is my go to Mexican restaurant. The atmosphere is great and the servers are very friendly. I haven’t had anything on the menu yet that I didn’t like. I’ve had everything from the nachos, fajitas, burritos, and tacos. My favorite thing to order is the Shrimp Imperial. It’s amazing! Try it, I think it will become your favorite Mexican restaurant too!
Best Mex in MJ. One word = FRESH. You can tell the quality of a Mexican place by the freshness of their salsa amd guacamole. Everything is made fresh daily at El Rey. If you like your salsa from a can and your guacamole from a tube, go somewhere else.
The food is excellent, staff are friendly, clean place, great salsa, delicious drinks and one of our favorite restaurants in Mt. Juliet.
Worst of the worst. Ate there last week and just now recovered, had what could be the worst fajitas in Nashville. Our service was terrible and the salsa is basically crushed tomato with salt. Hard to describe but easy to say do not go at all!
Great Service w/ New Menu Items. There are lots of Mexican options around this area. From the outside you might discount El Rey since it’s a small door in a strip mall. That would be a mistake. Go in and it’s much larger and very well decorated. They can set things up to accomodate your party size. The food is pretty typical, with burritos, tacos, fajitas, carnitas etc. but they have recently added quite a few new menu items to set them apart. One example is the Borachao Chicken. Cooked with tequila and pinapple with a cheese sauce over rice. Another, Tamal Verde, beef tamales with a green sauce (duh!) with queso fresco. Sounds simple, but it’s better than the sum of it’s parts. There are lots of seafood options now, and the Seafood Kabobs were quickly devoured and liked. Salsa is good but not spicy. Prices and portions are competitive and lunch options are a real value. Service is exceptional. Very attentive but not intrusive. The downside is one that’s common; the rice and refried beans. If someplace really wants to stand out, re-do this bland staple with properly prepared and seasoned rice and a whole bean with chili and meat side. Also, one of our Margaritas was very watery, the other was fine. But don’t let that keep you from El Rey, it’s a real good option.
Great service. This small Mex fare is way better than most in the area, and the service is better than fine dinning restaurants I have been to. Exceptionally tasty chips and salsa upon seating. Service was prompt and always attentive. Beer served in a frosty mug. Perfect!
Great Food and Atmosphere. The first sit-down restaurant in Mt. Juliet to serve alcoholic beverages when the ordinance changed some years back. My wife and I have gone there for many years. Great menu. Food and service are always good to great. Nice portion sizes and moderate to very inexpensive prices. Shrimp dishes are quite nice, It feels more authentic than Don Pancho’s or Cinco de Mayo. Only flaw is that they make terrible coffee and don’t offer decaf at all. The fact that they have held on despite the influx of trendy restaurants into the area.
