Ive been dinning at this place ever since i was a kid its a great place for soul food and everybody that comes to Murfreesboro should visit kleer-vu my fav is that cornbread.
Just like Granny’s cooking.. Really good Meat and Three restaurant. But don’t let the location scare you off. It’s located in a shady part of town, inside a run down looking building. Everything on the menu is good, especially the way they prepare the cornbread. Get there early though, the noon crowd takes all the seats, and what is usually left over is by the door and the long line. Enjoy!!
Missing It…..Badly. I lived in the Boro for about ten years. I love Kleer Vu. I would be outside at 10:45 with the others waiting for the doors to unlock at 11:00. I eat the fried chicken, greens, mac-n-cheese, Hot water cornbread, chess pie and sweet sweet iced tea in a large to go cup!!!! It is on the edge of the hood, but there are mansions in its backyard. The building is old, but clean. The line can be long if you don’t get there early. Who knows, you might bump into the mayor or a crack head who hasn’t had a meal in days. All walks of life- you’ll experience varying ethnic and religious backgrounds, socio-economic backgrounds. If you ask me, that is part of the flair. The servers, cashier are all busy people just doing their job without any frills or special hospitality. Dont expect them to praise you cause you walked through their door. They dont do that and I can appreicate it– hey they will get customers whether I am there or not. I just wish I could jump out of Oklahoma into the Boro about once or twice a month to get a fix of the VU. This is sweet comfort food– for my soul.
The building is old but clean and the staff is super friendly but No food love for me! Ive heard about this place for years, what a disappointment. Dry fried chicken, tough and bland. The greens were fresh but someone went a little heavy with the liquid smoke. Nice black eyed peas, but not enough to make me return. I like a lot of fried things but soggy fried cornbread…not so much. Sketchy hood, I wouldn’t have come after dark.
I came to TN from MD wanting some good down home southern cooking and Kleer-Vu more than delivered! Everything was wonderful, especially the fried chicken and cornbread dressing! Also, the chess pie was fabulous! I had not had that for many years and it brought back so many memories when one of my friends would make that for me when I lived in New Orleans. Hats off to the cooks and bakers! I will definitely be back.
Love. Besides my mom & grandmothers southern cooking…This is the best place to get your southern soul food on. YUM.
Good Soul Food. I have enjoyed Kleer-Vu for 15 years. Never had a bad experience.
