Small portions for the price & extra charge for tea refills. Recently, I visited this so-called soul food restaurant. I ordered the 3 veggie plate with hot water cornbread. To drink I ordered sweet tea with lemon. The rude lady at the counter was preoccupied with her personal business and did not bring lemon with my tea. So I politely ask her if I could get lemon for my tea. She replied we don’t have lemon but I have lemon juice. You would think she would have been nice enough to bring me the lemon juice to the table. She said in her funky rude voice if you bring your glass to the counter I can pour some lemon juice in your tea. I’m not sure if she is mad at the world or stressed out about her business but she should not take that out on her customers. I went to counter to pay my bill and ask her if I could get my refill on the tea to go. Granted I did not have a refill during my meal. So the rude woman decides yes no problem and proceeded to charge me another $2 for a glass of tea. The menu specifically read tea refills are free. She needs to get an attitude check. Hopefully, her business will not last too much longer especially if she treats all her customers like crap.

Feel Good Food!!. We ate here for the first time and the food was outstanding for all of us! Everything on the plates were cooked fresh to order and had such good flavor. The owners are extremely sweet and friendly, they made us feel like family! I highly recommend the meatloaf and the catfish if you are having trouble choosing one of the many plates they offer!

No salt and pepper needed!. There is no salt and pepper on the tables. Why you ask? Because everything is seasoned exceptionally well! The food is by far some of the best home cooking in the South. The mashed potatoes alone are enough to make you come back for more! I love the chicken and dressing and also the fried dill pickles. The pickles are battered from scratch. We love the owners! So welcoming and make you feel so at home. Word of warning though, when you order spicy, you better believe it! It is what it is…..SPICY!! You cant go wrong with anything on the menu and they run out of favorites quickly.

Soulless Soul Food. On January 24,2014 a friend and I decided to eat at M & V Famous Soul Food. Neither of us had ever tried it before and decided to go eat dinner there after getting off work. We arrived about 6:40 PM and figured out you had to go place your order at the counter. We were not acknowledged by the staff. The staff was friendly enough while we placed the order, the experience went downhill quickly from there. We were asked if we were dining in or carry out and we said dining in. The food was ready around 7:00 and we were called to the counter for carry out. I told the counter help that we were dining in and was told by the woman at the counter in a very rude manner that dining in stopped at 6:00. It seems to me that should have been mentioned when we ordered, especially since it was past 6:00 and we shouldn’t have been asked if we were dining in. We left with the food and I stopped to drop my friend off at his house. We removed the food from the bag to divide our order and apparently the catfish I ordered had been dumped from the fryer directly into a Styrofoam container. The bottom of the container had melted along with the top of the order in the bag under it. I ordered the spicy catfish, macaroni and cheese, turnip greens and a corn muffin. The spice in the catfish batter seemed to consist only of a large dose of cayenne pepper, the batter was brown and tasted of burnt flour as if the fryer oil needed to be changed. The fish itself had a watery, under-cooked, previously frozen taste. The macaroni and cheese tasted very much like packaged, at least it tasted like the version with the pouch of cheese sauce and not the powdered cheese version, but that is not what I was expecting. The corn muffin was a round disc of fried cornbread heavily laden with grease. The turnip greens were the high point of my meal, they were good, not great but good. The two meals cost $28 and change for what was basically two meat with two. I guess this is why they didn’t tell us we would be carry out. If we had known, we would have left and had a nice sit down dinner complete with table service for about the same price. In fact, I could have went to Captain D’s and had a much better dining experience. I had heard this was the best soul food in the area, so after eating I decided to Google soul food restaurants in the area and surprise, surprise, they are the only soul food restaurant I could locate in the area. It is very easy to win if you are the only horse in a one horse race.
