So I’ll get the positive out first because in general, the restaurant is alright. The decor is tacky but inviting and the waiters and waitresses are kind and attentive. The presentation of the Tahitian feast was impressive and I enjoyed warming my food over a fire. My real problem was with the food and the price for the food. I like diverse food but many of the dishes cater to Americanized Chinese and Asian foods like the egg rolls. The pork on the feast was by far the best part of the evening as it was perfectly tangy and sweet. But many of the dishes felt like they came from a bag or box, like the rice. As of our dinner on November 15th 2014 the feast is $22.50 per person and considering how underwhelming the food was, I felt as though it was very overpriced. Overall I don’t regret the experience but I don’t think we’ll be coming back.

This is not Chinese Food (yea). I had to address some of the negative reviews. This is not Chinese food. Major Jim Walls developed each recipe many, many years ago as he traveled Asia as an officer after WWII. Everything is made fresh, sauces do not come from a can. If you saw the work that goes into just making the soup, and all the ingredients, you would be quite impressed (I worked there many years ago.) If you wonder how they have been open for over 50 years because you didn’t like it, you are part of a very small group of people that hold that opinion. The Omni Hut is one of just a few original Polynesian Restaurants in the world and very little has changed on the menu or dcor over the years. Dining at The Omni Hut is an experience and the food is wonderful. You just have to find what you like best. You can’t go wrong with the steak, ribs, shrimp, chicken or chow mein, but first timers really should order the Tahitian Feast for a nice sampling of the menu. Let the staff take care of your family or group for special occasions for a truly special evening. Want to impress on a date? This is the place. Check out the pictures linked to Old Red Boots review. (Smyrna, just in recent years, passed laws for liquor by the drink; but since The Omni Hut has been BYOB for fifty years, it is probably best to let that tradition stand. There really isn’t enough room to add a bar. They provide set-ups, so just take your own.) Bon Appetit!

Tiki-tastic spot. This place is a true gem, hidden away in lil ol’ bitty Smyrna, TN. It’s a family business that’s been around for literally 50 years.First: YOU MUST ORDER THE HAWAIIAN TEA…it’s the most delicious drink you’ll ever have.Everything is good, but please try the Tahitian Feast for 2 ($17.50/person). You’ll thank me later…it comes with:1) a bowl of egg flower soup2) a Pupu platter for 2 that includes: Bora Bora (grilled bacon-wrapped pineapple), pork won tons, crab rangoon, egg rolls, rumaki, Polynesian pit ribs (just simply to die for!), beef sticks to roast over the fire, shrimp Panamanian (biggest shrimp on Earth…think Shrimpzilla), and tahitian beef tidbits (teriyaki flavored goodness)3) 3 entrees: sweet and pungent pork, shrimp fried rice, and the best chicken chow mein you’ll ever put in your mouthAfter the appetizer platter they’ll bring you a steaming white towel in a bamboo basket to clean up with. It’s very hot, but refreshing after that awesome finger food. The decor is beautiful and authentic, kind of dim with blacklights shining on really pretty floral arrangements, wicker furniture, and amazing staff. You’ll feel like you’re dining on a south Pacific island.
