Hello all!! Here we are up in the Smokies!! Townsend Tn is not know for its culinary experiences, however if you are looking a bit nicer environment Trailhead foots the bill. The warm rolls are a nice touch, tea very tasty. I had hamburger steak with baked potatoe- comfort food is the name of the game for Zorro!! The steak was grilled perfect as asked, the brown gravy tasted great to accompany the steak. Baked potato was perfect. The only annoying thing- this crazy mountain music sound track playing!! My advice, let the environment hold its own with conversation.. not some mouth harp music!! Will definitely be back!
Took in dinner here with the family on a recent family vacation to the Smokies. This was the site best meal we had during the entire trip. I don’t give many 4.5 ratings but The Trailhead Steak & Trout House earned it.We waited about 20 min or so before being seated at a nice large table. The evening we dined there they had an incredibly talented musician playing solo. He played the guitar, banjo and fiddle (violin). He played everything from classical guitar and some very complex banjo arrangements (think Bela Fleck) to some outstanding old time bluegrass on the fiddle. I wouldn’t be shocked if he was a music PHD from UT-Knoxville.We began by being served a nice house made bread loaf with some sweet honey butter. The bread was a very nice touch. If you’ve read many of my reviews you know that when traveling I enjoy trying dishes that I can’t get at home. My visit to The Trailhead was no different. I ordered the fried mountain trout with a baked potato and a caesar salad. My wife ordered the sirloin, medium with mashed potatoes and a salad.I’ve not had mountain (rainbow or brown) trout many times, but I can’t remember a time when it was better than what I was served at Trailhead, beautiful filet, light cornmeal breading, fried perfectly. It was crispy on the outside but tender and flaky on the inside. You couldn’t have asked for a better piece of fish. The baked potato was good and the salad was fine as well. But, the trout clearly stole the show!My wife’s steak was a much better than average cut, almost no fat whatsoever, thick cut that was grilled to near perfection. I tried a bite and can attest that it tasted as good as it looked in the photo. I think she was expecting something like garlic mashed potatoes when she ordered them but they came out standard mashed potatoes with gravy. There was nothing wrong with them in fact they were just fine. She reported her dinner salad was good as well.In all this was an outstanding experience, it far exceeded our expectations and will be a place we will return to the next time we’re in the area.
Went here to get some food and a break after a long hike bTrout was cooked perfect, burgers are very good. The service is spot on, we will make this a regular post hike stop!
Four in our party for dinner. At our table we had grilled trout, hamburger, ribeye and sirloin, with loaded baked potatoes, northern beans and French fries. The food was delicious, and service was good. Servers were very friendly. Will definitely be back!
Not what it used to be. A couple years ago this place had a fantastic reputation. But – that chef is long gone. Don’t be fooled. The food is mediocre and the service is lackadaisical.
Great Trout and More.. Went here after the Thanksgiving holidays for dinner. Considering that most of the restaurants in the area close this time of year, we were happy to find this place open. If you opt for the fried green tomato’s for an appetizer, be aware that it is huge. Four people could easily share this. They were very good as was the meal. My wife got the grilled trout, and I got the fried catfish. The service was excellent and friendly. We will be back on our next visit to the area.
Been there twice, will keep coming back.Great food and great staff.
