What a fun place to hang out in the evenings. There’s live music, ever changing food trucks outside. The wine bar serves only starters, wine, beer and desserts. Grab a blanket and sit by the fire if it’s cold outside or if it’s nice out, there are tables set among the grape vines outside. There’s a chess set which my kids loved while listening to the live band ittybittyfoodies.com

We stumbled upon the Mill one recent Saturday night. We were floored to discover something like this in Abilene. The ambiance and atmosphere in the outdoor area are top notch. The lights strung through the trees, landscaping and accents are well done. The live music was a nice touch but the sound equipment seemed to be a little sub-par which detracted from the talent of the musician. Sound issues aside, this is far and away the best patio in Abilene. We went inside and were delighted to see how beautifully the old Mill building had been restored. The furnishings and finishes are well and tastefully done. We entered the taproom and were disheartened to see such a large and disorganized line for the bar. The line seemed to move incredibly slowly and while a couple of staff members seemed knowledgeable and personable that was not the case across the board. We tasted a few selections and ended up purchasing a growler of the Sangiovese on tap. The wine itself was a bit forgettable and nothing really stood out but it was definitely drinkable and the purchase of the growler insured that we wouldn’t have to waste another 30 minutes in line when our glasses ran dry. The growler and wine came to $32.50, a decent price for both combined. Half way through filling our growler, the wine keg ran dry. Our server dealt with it superbly by pouring each of us a healthy glass and telling us to go ahead outside and she would bring the growler to us once the wine had been restored. Later we were pleased to receive a full growler as a thank you for our wait. Once outside we secured a table in one of the outdoor silos. Almost every table was filled at this point (around 10:30p) A man came by to light the fire pit which made for great ambiance. We saw servers passing by with platters and soon discovered that there was a small menu of tastes available. Listed were cheese platters, a few shareable apps and desserts. We chose the brownie trio. It arrived quickly but was hit or miss in taste. The chocolate peanut butter was the best of the three, the raspberry okay and the chocolate espresso a dry disappointment. The price was reasonable. Overall it was a good experience, the atmosphere and uniqueness of this place in Abilene makes the misses more than tolerable. We’ve since been back on a Thursday night, which was enjoyable and less crowded.
