The burgers here are delicious. Their ingredients taste like they came straight from the farm. The fries are on point, if a little expensive. The service model is a little wonky, in my opinion. You walk in, wait in a line, where a host will greet you and give you a slip of paper with the number of a table. You continue in this line until you get to a counter where you order, and the cashier takes your table number. Then you have to find your table, and they’ll bring your burger when it’s done. Fries come first, when they’re ready. It just all seems awfully confusing for a burger joint.
Long wait. We were at the front of the line for over 5 minutes before anyone took our order. We waited 20 minutes before our food arrived. We were told our fries would come first, and they didn’t arrive until after I finished my burger. Despite the long wait, staff and food were both amazing. Will definitely go back but only to pick up to go order.
People have been telling me to try hopdoddy for ages now, and I finally have and it’s overrated. I usually go into a restaurant with an open mind and without any expectations, but so many people I know have raved about hopdoddy. So, I went in here with high expectations and thought the food was just okay. I got the thunderbird and the truffle fries. Neither one of those things were bad, but just not the most amazing food ever. The fries were not crispy and just tasted okay. I did love the sauce that comes with the fries. The thunderbird wasn’t bad, but was a little bland. The meat was juicy and I loved that it comes with a ton of avocado. The food here is decent, but not the best I’ve had. That being said, it’s worth trying because it’s something unique and they focus on local ingredients. I think the food is worth 3 stars, but the service deserves a 5 star rating. The one thing that is on point here is the great service. From the moment you enter, the employees are trying to create the best experience. Everyone from the host and cashiers are friendly. When you enter, you are given a table number and menus, and then you order at the counter. Our food came out pretty quickly, but it was past lunch time.
Best burger I’ve had since moving to Texas 9 years ago. Funky place just works.
Hip Hop…. Open a little over a month now, this Hopdoddy’s Burger Bar seems to be a carbon copy of the others. The menu appears to be similar, and for better or worse appears to be as noisy as the one in the Park Cities. It was doing a steady business this Saturday. We had no more than a five minute wait to reach the ordering station. The young lady who met us at the door reserved a table for us three while we ordered. My friends ordered the Classic Burger with cheese & the Llano Poblano which came with Pepper Jack cheese, bacon and poblano peppers. He added a sunnyside up egg of his own accord. As a side they had the Parmesan fries with truffle oil and green chile queso. They both liked the burgers, but not crazy about the truffle oil laden fries. Buns were reminiscent of Fuddrucker’s–and I think that’s a good thing.I give a thumbs-up to the El Diablo burger. It had a friendly helping of both habanero and Serrano peppers. They seem to have been de-seeded and de-veined for the most part, so the burger was burning hot, yet I wasn’t running for a beverage straight away. Speaking of beverages, they use the Dublin, TX pure cane sugar beverages here. I had their version of the pure cane sugar Mexican Coke. They had a diet version as well as a regular cola variety. One friend had the pure cane root beer. This was good stuff. I find the sweet real sugar soda to quench my thirst better than the diet or the high fructose version. One of the servers helped us out a couple of times by refilling our drinks as well as getting us to-go cups. The ceiling-to-floor windows brings in lots of light during the afternoon which is conducive to a boisterous atmosphere. The tables are communal, or practically so since you are almost elbow-touching distance from you neighbor, so watch your conversation. The only problems were logistic ones. Another server came by soon after we sat at at the reserved table that we were given and politely questioned us about the seating arrangements. She said that another server had stolen our seats from her. But she ultimately was cool with it and managed to find other comparable seats for her party. The other issue was that our food was brought to the table in staggered servings. I ordered last but my fries came to me before we received the rest of our meals. I hope they take care of these minor bumps. Final thought–food good, atmosphere is fine if you can stand the loudness, service is amicable and bouncy. We would certainly return.02 Nov, 2014El Diablo. The habanero and Serrano peppers dance on your tongue on this burger!
