Great little place; a throwback to that old diner feel. I had the 3-egg omelette with cheese, chorizo, jalapeno, and mushrooms, side of hash browns, and wheat toast. With a cup of coffee it was less than $10. The place reminded me of dining out with my grandparents when I was a kid. They do have a smoking section in the front, so be warned. It was empty when I went, but I can imagine the whole place will smell if it’s busy. Overall, definitely worth a visit!
Smoking Allowed in the Restaurant. J’s has the makings for greatness. I can see adding it to my favorite Hole-in-the-Wall guide. The place looks and feels like a greasy spoon. The servers are loud, brash and on a first name basis with most of the customers. They yell instructions, hellos, and wise-cracks across the room. You cannot miss the loudness of it all. For me, there is a fatal flaw I cannot get past. Smoking is allowed in the front half of the diner. It smells of old smoke even in the non-smoking section. My lunch was filled with the smell of smoke. I cannot get past that. It’s too bad because this is a dive to love. As far as the food goes, I tried the swiss mushroom burger. It was diner food. The mushrooms were canned and a tiny square of swiss cheese was used. I tried a burger because it’s in the name of the restaurant, and it’s featured prominently at the top of their menu. I won’t be back due to the smoke, but if I did, I would hit the breakfast menu.
Atmosphere from an old movie. I love this place, found out about it with my friend, we go up there at like 11pm, get acknowledged, everyone keeps to themselves, very friendly. I love the feel of the place and glad it isn’t popular like Chili’s / Applebee’s, it’s not mainstream so a bunch of young loud teens aren’t in there cramping the style with their fragrances. I’m 18, but I love this place! Nice bar, owner is up there, waitresses are nice and polite. Smoking doesn’t bother me as in other restaurants. The food is AMAZING! I go here every Friday. It’s the best burger joint in town. Fuddruckers is a very close second.
Great everything. Great food. great customer service. great price. an addison must!!!
Good Food Rude Waitress. Good food at J’s — service gets the food to your table and that’s about it. Make sure to leave a 50% tip or so or get barked at about how your tip isn’t good enough. Waitress actually made a very unprofessional and rude comment to me about the lack of tip left on a $4.33 bill. If I go back, let’s see if I offer any tip at all other than to keep her mouth shut about such things.
Greasy spoon heaven. One of the very few places in town where you can enjoy a cigarette, coffee, newspaper and breakfast/lunch/dinner all in the same seat, where the smoking section is larger than the non smoking section. The waitresses know what they are doing, friendly and efficient. The food? Wonderful, true home cooking. Chicken fried steak to die for, build your own omelets and green beans cooked in onions and bacon, fabulous!!! If the smoking doesn’t kill ya, the food will, but OH what a way to go, i love this place 🙂
The best diner food in Dallas! I’ve been coming here over ten years. Great breakfast and chicken fried steak! If you’re lucky Dorothy will wait on you. She is my favorite waitress there.
