Deep dish was comparable to Gino’s East in Chicago, which is quite good. The crust was different… Less flakey, but still good. Italian beef sammy was decent, but I like my bread crustier. $35 for a medium deep dish meat lovers and one Italian beef sandwich is pretty decent pricing.

Best Pizza I have had in DFW. Reminds me of an old favorite: UNOs. I didn’t have time to wait for a deep dish so I asked for thin instead. Wow! I was not disappointed! Huge toppings and delicious crust. One happy customer!

Contributing to Windy fix in DFW. Went to Taste of Chicago with a crew of six for a birthday dinner. Had called a few days ahead of time, spoke with the owner who answered the phone and was helpful and accommodating. Mentioned to him that this was going to be a special dinner and we wanted some authentic-tasting deep dish pizza. His reply was to simply read the reviews online, which I’d already read (there aren’t many here, but a number of them over on yelp) and they were largely favorable. We went last night. Called in the deep dish pizza order ahead of time, so that it would be ready not long after our arrival. Hostess seated us and took our remaining order (salads, drinks). The pizza came out right on time. For those of you not familiar with Chicago deep dish, it takes 40-45 minutes from the time you place the order for the pizza to be ready. If you place the order when you arrive, be prepared to wait. That’s just the way it is. My personal preference is to call ahead, and time the arrival at the restaurant when the pizza is ready soon after arriving. By doing so, our pizza at Taste of Chicago came out within 10 minutes of us sitting down. Amazing what a little thinking ahead will do…Okay, on to the pizza. I’ll start by saying I used to travel to Chicago frequently on business. I’ve had all the major players in Chicago, a number of mom and pops in Chicago, and a host of Chicago fill-ins and wanna-be’s across the Metroplex. This ain’t my first pizza rodeo. We all have our personal favorite, and we all have various things which contribute to our own idea of who not only gets it right but gets it dead-letter perfect. I know who does it in my book, and you know who does it in your book. We all, then, carry with us when we try a new place the recall and remembrance of who the undisputed King and Champion of the world is when it comes to Chicago style deep dish pizza. I went to Taste of Chicago with that highest-of-bars Deep Dish King well-grafted in my mind. That all being said, I’d give Taste of Chicago a B+ to A- rating, somewhere in there. aka, 4 out of 5 stars. It’s not on par with the jaw-dropping, dead-letter perfect King of my personal opinion, but Taste of Chicago does a decent and solid job with their Chicago deep dish and I will be a repeat customer. Add to this that the hostess could not have been more genuinely friendly and accommodating. She engaged us throughout our stay, was congenial, and was there not just to get her paycheck but to do all she could to make our meal enjoyable. Our pre-meal salads were made of fresh ingredients. Our meal here was deep dish pizza alone, so bear in mind that this review doesn’t expound yet on how Taste of Chicago does pasta, Chicago dogs, calzone, Italian beef, etc. One final note. The pizza got better over time. When it first came out piping hot the tomato sauce on top had an interesting twang to it. It wasn’t bad, it was just different than ever tasted before on Chicago deep dish. As the pizza cooled it became better and better. By the time it was close to room temperature when we left, I took one last leftover bite and it was the best yet.
