Great local place that has been around forever. Had a tex/mex plate that was fine. Excellent service and lots of funky christmas lights and knick knacks all over the place. It’s a tiny building, easy to miss, but worth the trip.

Chili, tamales, chili burger. Chili burger is simply a toasted hamburger bun with their iconic homemade chili ladeled over bun, minced onions and iceburg lettuce (which wilts under the hot chili).08 Jan, 2011Iconic Mexican joint in Baytown. Located for decades in postage stamp-size brick building beside railroad tracks in a seen-better-days part of downtown (actually, ALL of downtown fits that description). Been eating their chili burgers and tamales since mid 60s. Homemade chili breaks all the rules established for Texas chili: it’s pale, bland, runny. It’s DELICIOUS! And it sits atop most everything on the menu. My favorite meal there is chili burger with a couple handmade tamales on the side. But they even have chicken & dumplings. In the 45 years I have been going to Donnelly’s, except for the addition of a tiny dining room, this place has changed not at all. And I hope it never does!

Voted Best In Baytown. Mary has a great little cafe. Everyone is treated as an old friend. Food is great. Hambugers and onion rings best in town.

Great food and service. This place has about 6 tables and a counter to sit at. Mary, the owner is there from open to close making hot, fresh Mexican food that is some of the best I’ve had. Everything they have is homemade from their tamales to their chips and sauce. This is a true tex-mex cafe. The chili and beans are usually served over rice along with tamales or enchiladas. The burgers are also fresh and very good. Don’t go with a big party or if you’re in a big hurry because every meal is made as it’s ordered and space is very small.
