OK cue, not as good as I had hoped. I really wanted to like this place, as the wood smoke you smell while you are waiting (forever it seems) for your food. However I wasn’t overly impressed with the sauce, and the brisket didn’t have the smoky flavor that fills the restaurant, which I found puzzling. Perhaps the heavy smell in the place took away from the smoked flavor. It was good, just not as good as I had hoped. The corn fritters were good, and was surprised they only had unsweetened tea. Maybe I need to give them another chance.
The brisket here is exceptional.just don’t be in a hurry. most of the time, you’ll need to bus a table to have a place to sit down. but don’t hold that against them.on returning home from College Station, I like to call in an order to go. i just place it in my small ice chest, and it stays good until I get home. then I dine 🙂
Good Ribs. The ribs are great, the brisket can be dry from time to time, don’t get the pork its dry. The side items a good. The servie can be slow if the place is busy.
Good food. Three ladies who lunch occassionally, one who went there as a child with her parents, decided to meet there Wed, June 29,2011, big mistake. This place had been mentioned in the Houston Chronicle that day. Place was packed, did manage to get a table. We were just visiting so not in a hurry. Food good; however unless you have no teeth do not get the chopped beef sandwich (it is mush- you can buy that at the grocery store) get the hand sliced beef sandwich. Onion rings, french fries, barbeque all good. If you are looking for men/a man, this is where they come for lunch. The menus printed here are not up to date; prices have gone up slightly.
I love Martin’s. When I lived in town I ate there almost everyday. I even had them cook for my Ring Dunk. This is a must stop for me.
Try it before the place falls down. Old, ratty red brick BBQ landmark on College Avenue.Martin’s does custom barbecuing as well as offering eat-in service. The meats are done well, the sides are typical. We just enjoy supporting a vanishing 1950’s Texas joint.
Casual restaurant with delicious BBQ and a long history. Martins has been in Bryan college Station for years. Its very casual and has a concrete floor and tables and chairs scattered throughout the restaurant with a curved raised dining bar area that is for dining. The service is friendly and the food is delicious. They serve IBC rootbeer, and soft drinks from cans as well as iced tea.You choose your meats from BBQ beef briskit, sausage, chicken and more, then choose your side of fried okra, potato salad, beans, slaw, and more.you can have cheese and pickles onions or jalipinos. There are a few other things on the menu and the restaurant smells of BBQIts affordable and delicious and full of traditions and history.
