Bad reaction…. The salads are, well…you could probably make a better salad at home. I can’t eat the lasagna there; it has made me sick both times I’ve tried it. The first time I just thought it was just me and my sensitive stomach. Then I had it again last week and it left me sick for 3 days. Could have been the incredibly greasy cheese or maybe the meat was bad; I really don’t know. But; I did have buffalo wings from there before and I was fine. So if you go; stay away from the lasagna and salad….hmm you may be just better off going to Olive Garden.
Bruno’s Old J’ville. I don’t really understand why so many people are in love with this place. The food is average, the servers seem uninformed, and there is usually a lot of food on the floor that nobody has swept up. The portions are large, but that is not enough to make me want to go back again…
BRUNO’S OLD JACKSONVILLE HWY. We called and made reservations a week in advance. Our party of 35 arrived and were turned away. The manager’s belligerent attitude and unprofessonal behavior was insulting, at best. His breath smelled strongly of alcohol. Some families drove over fifty miles for this gathering. Small children were hungry, and we all left disapointed. After reading the online reviews for this establishment, it’s good we went to another resturant; I would have hated to have driven that far to spend good money on bad food.
Nice people..wretched food. The people who run Bruno’s are so nice, the atmosphere so homey and pleasant, that I feel like something of a scoundrel to mention that the food is simply inedible. Italian American cuisine is one of those simple pleasures that you become accustomed to in cities like New York, Chicago and St. Louis. While its often far removed from its authentic Italian origins it stands out as a worthy New World synthesis. How it went wrong in Texas is unknown to me but I have yet to eat a decent Italian American meal in this state. Bruno’s is, sadly, only the latest disappointment, in a long string of disappointments. I should hasten to note however that Tyler locals regard Bruno’s as the very best in Italian cuisine. Regetfully, this says more about the low standards of the locals than it does about the quality of Bruno’s.There is simply nothing good that can be said about the food except perhaps that it is served in large portions (a critical factor for the locals). The tomato based sauce was distinguished only by being acrid as it was otherwise devoid of all taste. Pizza was burnt, pasta was overcooked and mushy, and even the bread was cottony and inedible. Two bites of my pasta was enough to repulse me. I ate so little that I actually pushed the remainder around to try to give the impression to the waitress that I had eaten more. Again, these are very nice people and I hate to have to say unkind things about the food.
Quality vs price. Seemed expensive for a pizza place. Some of toppings were not really very good quality. Canned Mushrooms (yuck) and they aren’t really sure what Italian sausage is, because I can tell you that was NOT Italian sausage on my pizza.
Great pizza. You get what you pay for and then some. Try the combination pizza minus the jalepenos and anchovies
