Went to eat there today and it was a huge disappointment. Having enjoyed eating there in years past, we were looking forward to it. We met some out-of-town relatives there for a special meal and now I wish we had gone somewhere else. The waiter was not friendly nor was he patient. He literally stood right at the end of our table and yawned loudly while he waited. Body language says a lot and his was screaming that he wanted us to hurry up.The chips and salsa were mediocre. The sauce tasted like canned tomato sauce with a little bit of spice. It was just smooth with no texture and it was actually the first time I’ve not liked the salsa at any Mexican restaurant. The chips were cold and overdone. Tasted like the oil they fried them in was not fresh. We ordered an appetizers of a bowl of queso and some guacamole. The queso just looked unappetizing… kind of gloppy and the cheese texture was off. The guacamole was completely unseasoned. We asked for waters with lemons on the side but we just got waters. We also found out that their kid’s meals don’t come with a drink, which is fine but is also the first restaurant we’ve eaten at that doesn’t offer a drink with it. For $6.00 or $7.00, you would think they would. For a meal, I ordered two cheese enchiladas and a bean tostada. The enchiladas were greasy and the tostada was very bland.I love Tex-Mex food but I honestly can’t think of at least one positive thing to say about this place. I wish I could.Sorry to say that we won’t be back.
The service has become horrible. Horrible. They used to be decent, but on our last 4 visits the lazy wait staff has vanished. We used to eat here 1-2 x/week, but no more. We wont be back.
The Taco Is Good!!. We go this little Tex Mex on a regular basis. I have eaten Tex Mex at lots of places, both high end and hole in the wall. The Taco is well above average and is well located for my family. Their food is consistently good, the place is clean, and the staff is very friendly and prompt. Fajita’s are really good as are most of the other menu items. Carona-Rita’s are excellent!! try it, it is worth your time and money.
Not Far From Tyler. Being fairly close to Tyler, I figured this would have more reviews online, but it is virtually nil. I saw this every time I ventured over to Hondo & Shorty’s, so I have wondered what it was like. I was planning to try What About Kabob?, but they were not opening up for supper for another 30 minutes. Then I remembered this place. The restaurant has a wide open floor plan and is clean and brightly lit. Everything we had was pretty good, and they have free ice cream. I don’t know if it’s a place I would go out of my way to go to, but if I lived in the area I’m sure I would visit there pretty often. Then again, you can’t really get the feel of a place’s menu/food/variety in one visit. Normally I probably wouldn’t review because of these reasons, but they only had one short mobile review.
Great food, great prices, family atmosphere.
