Cute, modern, cozy… I really like the spicy gang jung flavor. It wasn’t as spicy as I thought it was going to be, but the flavor was really good. I got the regular bone-in wings and my daughter grabbed the boneless(forgot which flavor, but it was also spicy). Got the corn salad and celery sticks; they also offered pickled daikon radish.
Korean fried chicken craze thanks to David Chang a la Momofoku diaspora into Texas. High hopes…for mediocre results, considering the long drive from downtown!SIGHT: Well decorated, upscale casual with fake greenery that provides privacy for each seating. Overall, charming and cute.SOUND: We had lunch on a Saturday at 1:00 pm…a few tables were crowded. The workers at the counter were very friendly and tried to explain the menu to us a couple of times since its a bit confusing to navigate…SMELL: Spice and fried chicken! Yum! Bring it on!TOUCH: Overall the restaurant was clean, modern and cozy with no sticky tables or chairs.TASTE:Gang Jung basically means sweet and sticky sauce with garlic, red pepper, soy sauce, sugar, etc… with the level of spice set to your liking… And you can get on rice flour coated chicken wings or boneless tenders. The rice flour allows the chicken to have extra crispiness.Spicy Gang Jung Chicken Wings- Out of all the fried chicken dishes, this is supposedly the hottest. Sticky, spicy, hot… it made my lips burns and my eyes water a bit. The sticky rice cakes helped soothe the pain. Think General Tso’s chicken wings with a rage of cayenne.Soy Garlic Chicken Boneless Wings- Honestly, the only thing I could decipher was that this dish was a less hot version of the Spicy Gang Jung chicken… I recommend the boneless wings over the wings!! All of the dishes are super sticky so eating with chopsticks makes this adventure much more…efficient.Corn Salad- Weird. Frozen corn mixed with Costco cole slaw. Pass.Daikon Pickles- Crunchy, savory, pickled surprise that was a nice compliment to the spicy fried chicken. whiskandtell.com
A delicious and friendly experience. A wide variety of fried chicken options in a charming space. Expect to wait for your food because it’s prepared when you order — this isn’t fast food and it doesn’t taste like it either.Tried the Green Onion chicken (the most popular) and the Original Gang Jung. I can see myself coming back again and working my way through the menu.
