Coming into Carrollton from out of town and this place fit the bill. We needed some Texas BBQ! We ordered the Super Family Pack and it was just the right amount of food. Sliced brisket was good. Ribs were good, too – nice and lean, flavorful. Sauce is not sweet and syrupy – which means it’s bit thin, but that’s fine. Loved the potato salad and BBQ beans. Last but not least, we all loved the banana pudding.
I have learned to not judge a book by its cover when it comes to dives and hole-in-the-walls. Forge ahead regardless of your initial impression because often it’s great food with even better people. This is a dive in the bad sort of way. The employees were really nice, but that’s where it ends. The $12 plate was bad. My two sides had no flavor or spices of any kind. The sausage was odd and not enjoyable. The place is in need of a serious cleaning and upgrade. Food stains running down the wall and seats that are torn wide open are what you will see while you eat. A fly buzzed me and my food the whole time. I did not finish my lunch plate as I lost my appetite.
The people are super nice however the chopped beef plate was about as flavorless as it comes. The sauce was watery also. The meat had a wet, almost boiled texture which is bizarre because I watched the guy chop it up. There was just no hint of smoke or rub anywhere. I hate to say it but this place is below Dickies in BBQ quality.
Wonderfully friendly staff and good BBQ at a reasonable price. Have always done take-out so can’t speak for the dine-on experience, it looks clean and family friendly.
Great staff and great food. You never leave hungry…
Great food and family environment. From the Texas style brisket to the great BBQ turkey, the food is always good. The sides are always what you expect from a good been-there-forever kind of BBQ house. The kids always have a good time with the free ice cream, and you can bet the pudding will be great if they still have any. There is a drive through, so it’s convenient to just swing by on your way home. The only issue is with the interior being a bit dated and in need of a fresh coat of paint. But as with most older BBQ houses, some would say the if it isn’t a bit dark with some smoke on the walls, what is the point?I and my family will be back.
