If you like pubs with a theme, then a place you may enjoy in Katys popular La Centerra district is Baker Street Pub & Grill. Styled in the tradition of a British pub, Baker Street Pub is a good place to visit for both food and beer.Baker Street Pub is known for both its pub grub and brew but since this is a pub after all, lets talk about the beer first. The selection includes an assortment of draft and bottled/canned options and it easily exceeds that of other restaurant/pubs. They have a good number of taps and even more bottles, with enough selections to keep craft beer lovers and others happy. They rotate some of the taps, too, so there is always something new to try.For food, Baker Street Pub serves up British style foods with an American twist. I often go with the cheesesteak sandwich or a burger when I visit, but I do venture outside of my comfort zone every now and then and purchase something different. On my most recent visit, I selected the Shepherds Pie, which comes with a side of green beans. I liked it and it was a nice match with my beer, but I have to admit that it was a little saltier than I prefer and a little on the small side. A larger portion would have made things better. The British themed atmosphere at Baker Street Pub is interesting and the bar area is covered with British paraphernalia. The bathrooms are hidden behind the bookshelves and its often humorous to watch people try to find them- especially those who have had a few too many to drink. They have a small outdoor patio also and its one of the few establishments I know of that has a cigarette machine. Baker Street Pub features live music on the weekends and it can get rather loud. The rest of the week is a little easier on the ears and this is when I recommend visiting, both for the lower decibels and to take advantage of special offers. Its not my favorite place to dine in La Centerra, but Baker Street Pub does have some good things to offer and is definitely worth the occasional visit. greatbeernow.com
