Disclosure: I am the son of a cattleman as well as one who is well versed in meat grading.Bottom line:There are better choices, like Kirbys, at a better price point and quality score.Details:My wife ordered prime rib and I ordered the filet. We did this intentionally to see how savvy the kitchen is at preparing two very different grades and tissue textures of meat. The prime rib was acceptable; nothing really to rave about. The seasoning had too much salt to it which tended to dry out the crusting if the prime rib. My filet was terribly disappointing. For one, the cut was actually a bit thin. On another note, it had been requested to be medium rare, which it pegged more toward medium. Because if this, the meat was not as tender as to be expected and, in fact, was a bit chewy, lending me to think it was not as high a grading as they thought it was when they purchased it.The sides we had were decent, if not overpriced for the size. The salad was goodcrisp and cold as to be expected. The service was certainly not acceptable. Leaving a water glass untopped for more than 15 minutes just isnt something that is done in this price League. Yet, there we are. Decrumbing the table didnt happen; it should have at this level of service. Their wine service was acceptable, not memorable.
Great steakhouse. I’ve only been here for New Year’s Eve dinner (maybe 4 years in a row or so). Family favorite. It’s been a great meal every year. We enjoy the set meal with a few options and the fact that there are different level meals to order depending on how large you’d like your portion. I always order the silver (smallest) which is still 4 courses. This time I tried the Lobster Bisque as my appetizer and it was delicious. Very creamy, thick and tasty. Warmed me up on a cold night. The JR’s Field Green Salad is one of my favorites of all time. I love the candied pears and walnuts. It comes with an entire strip of bacon in the side, always a winner in my book. For my main course I went with the 8 oz filet with jalapeo Hollandaise sauce. Absolutely delicious. The sauce is very tasty but not too spicy. I had the fresh berries and cream for dessert which is a nice, light option and still delicious. I’ve also tasted the cheesecake and it’s great! I can’t comment on their regular menu since I’ve only been for NYE dinner, but the staff has always been friendly and polite and given us good service so I highly recommend it! texassass.blogspot.com
