If you stop for anything other than a cold beer, you will most likely be disappointed. Lettuce was frozen. The cook must have spilled the salt into the batter for the chicken fried steak and okra. (I kid on the salt bc it’s all reheated from Sysco…) Oh, and they locked the doors at 8:30p on a Friday night! I wanted to like it-but in reality, don’t waste your money!
Good food, great atmosphere. First time experience at Guenther’s and I was worried it was a hole in the wall dive. I was pleasantly surprised. The wait staff were great, the owner spoke to us a few times to check on our group (20+) and we were really happy with the service. Most of the food was great, the voodoo shrimp was disappointing. Fried mushrooms and onion strings were good and I don’t usually like stuff like that. The chocolate meringue pie wasn’t the best I’ve had, but it was good and the portions are generous. The best thing was the live music provided by a gentleman who kept us laughing and singing all night. It’s worth going here just for the experience, and the food is good solid, satisfying stuff. A great taste of small town Texas.
