My friend and I dropped by this original Norma’s Cafe in Dallas and it was like going home. True old cafe vibe, and the staff was so so friendly!! Hubby got a coconut pie and was drooling!!!!It just felt good. Love places that take you back to that friendly family diner place in your heart!I hear they have chicken and dumplings on Saturdays!! manvitaweb.wordpress.com

I’m trying to remember the first time I stopped here. It was the first day of a new career and we stopped in often during those months in the area. It was March 1977 if memory serves.I have eaten here hundreds, if not thousands, of times in the ensuing years and every meal has hit the spot. Many, like today, consisted of watching the sunrise as I pondered the day. Some closed the day down but not near as many.EVERY meal has been consistently good which is why I return.

Smile. This place doesn’t have one star dish their ALL just Memaw good. Nothing fancy or pretentious, just make you smile to yourself and remember your grandmothers table. It’s old, it’s a little dingy, it’s crowded and loud, and I wouldn’t trade it for the world. It is every bit 1950’s Americana diner/cafe and between the food and the people you leave with a smile on your face and a warm full tummy.

Tried and true. I’ve been eating at Norma’s for over 30 years. It’s the closest to a traditional diner you’ll ever find in Dallas. Norma’s serves real food for real people. Unlike the infestation of yuppies that crawled in under the fence and hang out in and around Bishop street. Most of Norma’s clientele are average folks who’ve resided in Oakcliff most of their lives. The service is always great. It’s old warn around the edges ambiance, memorabilia on the walls , will make you feel right at home. They’ve got great food especially the Monterrey chicken. I think it is one of the greatest culinary chicken dishes ever prepared .And those yeasty diner rolls.yum..yum! Don’t forget to start your meal with a piece of pie!

Oak Cliff native: while my family enjoys this place, I simply give it an OK to decent rating. Breakfast is nothing special, but alright. Meatloaf is good. I tend to skip anything with brown gravy and brown sauces as.those tend to come clumpy and taste of packaged seasonings. Pies are good. I tend to favor places like Cotton Patch, Cotton Gin to get my home -cooking fix. I’ll go whenever the family insists that’s just.where we’re gonna go, so I go and just stick to my routine of bread, meatloaf and sides.

I’ve been here many times over the years and the food here is average and price is a bit more than I would want to pay. Service is great except when it gets busy, usually during the rushes of 8am, noon, and 6pm. I like this place for the atmosphere mainly but like I say, food is average. Chef salad is great.
