I’ve been to Uncle Julio’s on multiple occasions. First time to this location in Dallas. Service was just ok and food about the same. Have had much better experiences at other locations both food me service wise! Got the fajitas and there were maybe two peppers mixed with the onions and they were hardly cooked.

Uncle Julio’s is one of our favorites in the area. A bit pricy, we like coming to one of their outlets when we are in the mood for something special. Oddly, the Oak Lawn location usually has the shortest wait and the one in Fort Worth the most challenging parking. All have very similar food and service once you get seated. It amazes me that they can be so consistent between locations. We have tried many of their items at one time or another over the years and found them all good. But good isn’t why we come here. We come here for the Spicy Shrimp Brochette (aka Bacon Wrapped Camarones) (the name changes a bit from time-to-time but not the dish). The entre consists of six huge prawns that have been de-veined and had a small slice of fresh crisp jalapeo pepper inserted. It is then wrapped in bacon and mesquite grilled. It comes out on a sizzling platter with a small monkey bowl of garlic butter foam for dipping and a hot lemon-half for squeezing. It also comes with a setup containing Charo Beans, fresh guacamole, and rice. Amazingly good – and I don’t really care for shrimp – the grilling apparently removes any of that dead seafood taste that might have been there. After several dozens of times ordering this dish, over better than three decades, without it ever having that taste/odor, I think they know something about technique. Nobody is that lucky and it is consistent from store to store. They also offer the Guadalajara a pairing of fajitas and these shrimp so you can hedge your bet if you wish.Other interesting dishes are:Agave Queso Chicken – a mesquite grilled chicken breast with a great agave queso sauce and hickory smoked bacon.Juanita’s Platter – Ground beef enchilada with agave queso, pulled chicken enchilada with Hatch chili sauce, beef taco, pork tamale with New Mexico red sauce.Mesquite Grilled Salmon, soups, salads, and the usual Mexican stuff.

Recent changes include shortened happy hour (6pm vs.7pm)and increased prices. Food and service is the same.

Sat at the bar top, warmly greeted by James and Caesar both were very friendly and gave great service. The salsas left something to be desired but the chicken and cheese enchiladas were great.

By far the best multi-location Mexican in DFW. We’ve been to both their Oak Lawn and Fairview/Allen locations a number of times and have always been delighted. Since they do not advertise and are rarely, if ever, reviewed by major media the only way we knew about Uncle Julio’s was from our highly positive familiarity with their Rio Grande Caf locations in Arlington, VA and Bethesda, MD. When we moved to the Metroplex nearly a decade ago we sought them out and we’re glad we did!

Tex Mex Heaven. This is my choice for T-M in my favorite Dallas neighborhood. Always great food and wonderful service. Hard to find parking in evenings, but worth the wait / walk.
