Nice little hole in the wall in Laredo. The owner was a one woman show as she waited on us, cooked for us, and she was even our cashier. That didn’t stop her from speaking with us about her mother land, Cuba. The food was savory and definitely home made. I uploaded some photos for everyone to feast their eyes on! I would recommend this place if you want to try something different and unique in this area.
Doggy Bag. I arrived about 10 minutes before closing time. The chef-owner told me I was okay to come in. No one other than myself was in the restaurant and she made me feel right at home. After telling her it was my first time, she recommended a few dishes. I chose their Masa Frita. Three things composed the entre: carnitas (fried pork pieces), beans & rice, and fried plantains. Everything just worked so well. The crispiness of the pork had just enough crunch to give way to the moist interior. After squeezing some lime over the meat, it just made it that much better. I’m very much of a fan of rice and beans so I was sure to be critical about them; no disappointments there. Though what I think brought everything together was the sweet caramelized taste of the plantains. The portion was huge and for a very fair price. I ended up taking half of it home. I really hope this establishment makes it. As I mentioned in another review, Laredo is opening its arms to various cuisines and that will be a great way to get the people out there to support small business.
Bad service!! Arrived and waited in line behind 3 people. The lady at register said hold on, I’m just going to place an order, instead she asked a lady that came up behind me how she can help her and said she wanted to pay. She took her card and ignored me, Terrible customer service, this is why restaurants in laredo go under.
Great restaurant. Only downside really is that they only serve mofongo for a couple hours a day and it’s amazing. Also, they need to add Vaca Frita on the menu. Really amazing Cuban dish. All in all, though, a great new restaurant.
